Adult.com sends you a gift as a gesture of thanks for participating in their program(s) & you bitch about it.. How ungrateful of you..Adult.com spent money to have those clocks made, as well as postage..and you have the audacity to throw it away!!! Privacy &/or confidentiality should not be an issue here..I'm pretty damn sure that the clock arrived in plain packaging..RIGHT! It was YOU that disclosed its contents to others..NOT ADULT.com.. I would have been delighted to receive a clock in the mail & would NOT have bitched & pissed & moaned about it!! If you were an auto mechanic, snap on tools would have sent you a calendar of bikini babes on cars..etc..or other items with snap on logo..etc.. In whatever business you do, you're suppliers/vendors/partners/associates, etc give you stuff that has their name or service mark on it..this generally is indicative of your profession...(You usually see these in peoples offices..) So, adult.com has the same principle as 99% of all the other types of companies..Give gifts of thanks to those that do business with you.. Hopefully that nice clock would be on someone's wall/desk & a customer/friend/relative/client of the clock owner would see it & say.."Hmm..Nice clock..Who's Adult.com" Then the clock owner would tell him about AP, Internet eraser, GFY..& so on..Later, maybe that person goes to Adult.com & signs up for some programs..maybe he/she becomes a member of GFY..Maybe if that clock was on YOUR wall..YOUR friends would JOIN under YOUR referral link!!!! Get real..The whole principal behind adult.com sending you that clock makes PERFECT business sense, as well as productivity.. came in an unmarked box so its no big deal. BUT.. I can say I understand the paranoia. Where I live half the state has porn and head shops everywhere. The other half is monitored by an anti-porn coalition. Those fuckers will burn your house to the ground if they know you sell porn. I know a guy who was doing VHS video for main stream companies and sometimes r-rated video. The "anit-porn coalition" would approach his kids when they got off the school bus. Last Christmas they were picketing in front of his home. In the end, they burnt his house and studio to the ground. They also burnt down three strip clubs in the middle of the night. Sleepy, I'll have to agree with you to an extent. I'm sure that if the wrong religious group knew what I was doing, I wouldn't doubt that they'd be outside my door. Hell, you should see them down at the newer Planned Parenthood office that's downtown. They're out there all the time with their big abortion pics, which is really nasty. There's a HUGE battle over that place in town here.
Anyways, getting back on track here. I guess that what this all boils down to is that it was a Christmas gift that he complained about. When someone gives you a gift, even if you don't like it, you say "wow, that's just what I wanted", not go behind their backs and complain about it. Sure, some people might not like adult related items in their house, but I can tell you that being an adult webmaster, I have things in my house that are much more adult related than a clock that says adult.com. I actually like neat gifts that are related to my work. What would he do if he got a GoFuckYourself shirt in the mail ??? he he he. |

If I were living a lie like gkk is, I know for damn sure that I'd check who each parcel and envelope came from before I opened it in front of anyone.

All jokes aside. I think he does make the important point that sending mail unmarked is important to a many people... maybe someone has young kids and they want to keep this side of their life private...?
I was *pissed* that Clicks magazine or AVN (I forgot exactly the magazines) started sending webmaster porno mags to my *home* address. I never asked for that shit -- some fucker sold my address to them -- they just started sending these mags to me at my fucking home address (not my PO BOX). Later when I moved out of that apartment (and one of my good friends moved in) -- she started getting all these webmaster porno magazines with name on them (even after I called to tell them to stop mailing those fucking magazines). She knows my business -- but do her parents, sorority sisters, landlord, etc. need to know my business? We choose to disclose certain things to certain people based upon our relationship with them. Unfortunately the postal system is not as private as email. What if her mom is visiting and finds the magazine in the mail? I personally don't care so much -- but I would rather be friends with her mom without her looming fantasy of my computer screen spooge. I'm not complaining about the clock -- I'm just making a point that privacy should be a consideration. |
