No silly, Amsterdam is the capitol of Belgium. That's one of our provinces too. It's near France, in Germany.

amsterdam is in noord holland, these are the provinces like you guys have states, noord and zuid holland are the parts where the dutchies traded stuff (not weed) uh linnen, all the great painters where there, VOC stuff (delfts blue china) etc...

The name Holland derives from two powerfull regions in The Netherlands (you might see them as states that used to be independent). Because of their power it has been used for a long time as to classify Holland and neigbouring states.
The Netherlands can be seen as "the united stated from the low countries". Belgium used to be included in this as well. Together with overseas parts like Aruba, Bonaire and the other caribean islands it is called "The kingdom of the Netherlands"
