I've never once found any deals on Travelocity or Expedia - GoFuckYourself.com

Can someone fill me in on what is the magic secret with these sites? I've never found any good deals on those sites. I've always got better flight prices from www.flightcentre.com and whenever I'm searching for hotels, going direct to the hotel's own website tends to be equal or cheaper than either Travelocity or Expedia.

Anybody else notice this?

It depends. I got 3 days - 2 nights hotel plus airfare to Newark, NJ from LA last summer for $348. That was a pretty sweet deal and cheaper than staying in or flying into NYC.

i use travelocity sometimes. i always phone a local travel agent first then see if i can beat it

Was it a last minute kinda thing? Because that's where I seem to think the deals are on sites like that.

Nope, it was 1 month before and it was in the summer too.
