Manowar, that method for blocking fusker is just NOT effective at all. There are literally hundreds of domains out there using fusker software, with the URL is all sort of different layouts and designs. It isn't easy to block individual domains that way.

I locked my servers down on this fool a little while ago, as well as Xanga and a few others. With some help from friends, I have found a good combination that really works.

Here is a method ... I tried it and it worked for my domains. E-mail [email protected] and tell him to remove your domains from his database. List all your domains. Let him know you plan on sueing if he don't ... it worked for me ... try it out.

Yeah. I was just trying to help any newbies who are getting hit by the main one. Fusker can't really completely be solved with .htaccess

Blah domain becomes any other domain you want to be able to hotlink you from. Domain because your domain

you guys, if you deal in high traffic free sites, with heavy scripting, every line of htaccess rewrite eats away at your server load, the longer the list the more time it takes to check each line when it goes to serve up a single image or graphic. I allow people to hotlink for viral marketing purposes except when a fucker comes along tossing 10mbps of traffic on me it fucks up the whole plan.

I've been a webmaster longer than you A&H and I don't know who the fuck cambaby is, but fuck you too buddy, you're BLOG SUCKS DONKEY DICK

Manowar: Fusker (and it's variants) can be pretty much eliminated with good htaccess and an eye on the bandwidth meters... when you start getting hit again, look at what they are doing now (like changing the names of their sites and software). My feeling is that if you work a little bit at it, you can make it less desirable and less likely you will be hit.

In my mind the sponsors who pay fusker's owners every month are the source of the problem, source of the funding.

PS: as an aside, I have been sending my fusker traffic all to ******* and her friends... it is amazing how quickly they give up.

You have a solution. If you don't use it, your fault. Raises the load on the servers? Buy better servers. I understand what you are saying, but the costs, long term, of hotlinking, outweigh the benefits.

Gleem, while every line of htaccess slows you system SLIGHTLY, the effects of a fusker hotlink can just about drain your system completely. It's all about what you lose and what you gain. I have pretty much completely removed fusker from my life in less than 10 lines in a global htaccess, which will soon be moved right into the apache config. Just taking that action took off about 1000kbs off one of my servers that WASN'T BEING ACTIVELY HOTLINKED (not enough of a traffic spike to notice).

Think about it.

Why does everybody get so pissed about fusker? Not trying to be an ass, but maybe I'm missing something. We constantly get hotlinked from fusker, and although a lot of it comes up as 404 since they are trying to hotlink some photos that aren't listed in the same folder as the others I see it all as traffic. The url isn't being removed from the photo, so I look at that as advertising....no different than having it on a TGP. Sure, there's a ton of people with no intentions of buying anything and just getting free porn, but evertime I list a gallery the same thing happens. From what I see, the only thing he has ever listed are photos from my free galleries, which always have the site name and url anyway, so no harm done as far as I can see. And if somebody stumbles across some photos they really like and join the site (which I'm sure happens) than I'm a happy camper! When I create a gallery, I consider that content I'm giving away and as long as somebody doesn't remove the watermarks that I put on all free photos, they're advertising for the site and they can share them all they want. Everything else I keep in the members area and if that ever gets hotlinked or posted, then I have a problem. Am I missing something here?

What is so fair about that Cambaby? Is that a requirement in the universal book of webmasters where you live? I do just fine with my knowledge and some of us no things others don't.......sharing information is one of the main purposes of a webmaster / webmistress message board.

Thanks for the thread link Fusion, very informative. I recently learned some htaccess to set up my 404 error page. All my help was gotten from gfy which was my point. I didn't mean to come off as a bitch but knowing or not knowing a bit of information does not qualify one as or as not a webmaster/webmistress. I have helped many webmasters here with things that I know from 7 years of experience and others have helped me.

XOXOXO

The way we did it was to create a .htaccess that blocks all domains except our own. It is inside of every TGP folder that is in our folders (after all, our pictures are in those folders, so those are the ones that we needed to protect from the fucker)

I do the opposite. I block all hotlinking at the root level, then put a blank .htaccess in any folder I want to allow hotlinking from. Either blank, or simply without the lines to drop the image requests.

Wilder, the issue is that for free site owners, the images will have the SPONSOR'S logo on them, not your URL. So right away, free site owners are 100% losers.

Even if the content is tagged, these people are NOT porn buyers... they have gone out of their way to get stuff free by the buckload (basically, all the images from your site on a single page without banners), and there is no way for people to click to or visit your site any any manner. There is very very little potential for income from this stuff.

However, if fusker gets ahold of some bigger images, they can pull down 7 - 10 mps all by themselves.

So why allow them even to see your stuff?

Alex

blah, I'm not gonna defend my "nubidom" or my bad experiences with htaccess both in individual folder and in the servers config file.

thanks triumph, it's amazing what some newbie who have 10k posts in 4 months on this board automatically consider themselves veterans, players, whatever...

What the fuck are you talking about? Why use my bandwidth when I can use other resources available, you see people hosting galleries on free servers all the time. I also am not stupid enough to host a shitload of galleries UNPROTECTED from hotlinking.

Stop blaming fusker etc, protect your shit and no one will jack you. It really is as simple as that, I mean come on now you are just being whiny and difficult.

They make money off the ads gleem, still I am making money too, the profit margin on my site is almost 100%. Very little cost. Now who is the fool?
