.sex tld or .xxx ?

Doesn't anyone believe Bush would want all the porn sites to move to their own tld's for easier filtering?

If he is really as religious as he claims, he could push a law to make .sex and .xxx a reality.

does anyone know if any web sites out there allows you to reserve .sex domains ?

Who would have thought PBS would have to worry about getting fined by the goverment?

I think its more than just a possibility, If the economical impact is low he'd definetly pass laws to put restrictions

I've thought this for quite a while, although it seems pretty hard to pull off with the legalities involved. Would owners of current adult .com domain have first dibs on the .sex registration? Would the .coms redirect to the .sex's for a while? There are a lot of details involved with this change.

.xxx and .sex would suck besides isps can shut them all off. Say good bye to daytime signups, no more surfing porn while at work which is a ton of the signs ups.

You can still try to get some. But there will not be a forced switch over

The real question would be what makes a site a .com or a .xxx? If I have a message board on a .com and someone posts something about .sex do I get fined? Or what if a blog posts a news story about sex?

Beyond that, if I have a violent site thats obviously not for kids should it be .sex or .xxx even though it has nothing at all to do with sex?

Too many complications both for the government and site owners.

I hope neither one ever comes to pass. If we are walking around with a scarlet letter on our chests, so much the easier for us to be knocked off. Also, if you think that a domain is going to go for 9.95 or 12.95 a year, your dreaming. Rumors are that they will be in the 75.00/yr range.

And who is this for? No country owns the internet. How do we make our counter parts in Europe or Russia convert over. Are we doing this only for sites that are US based? Do you hear that big rushing sound? It is a fleeing of US based sites to Panama, Costa Rica, even Canada.

This should not even be something that any sane, rational webmaster would ever want.

Both .sex and .xxx would be the worst thing to happen to this industry. They would move us off to an easily blocked out ghetto of porn. Regional ISPs (like those in Utah) could be forced by STATE law to block out sites out, heck even a local city our county ordinance could do that (community standards would be back to get us all). Browsers could be built and distributed by the majors that would block those extensions UNLESS you pay a fee or otherwise specifically authorize adult material - possibly by signing a waiver or otherwise having to make some big act to get in.

No, you don't want to get moved into a small box that can easily be controlled.

Anyway, anything like that would be a certain 1st amendment issue, and I think no court in the land would allow the government to restrict free speech in that manner.
