Well...Overture just pissed me off.

It seems that they denied ALL of my recent key word requests because I run an adult site.

Actually...Their beef is not that I run an adult site but that the key words were not naughty enough to point to an adult site.

WTF kind of bullshit is that?

If I want to register a porn stars name then point it to an adult site they will decline me unless her name is "Peter Pussy Fucker" or something.

Now, I could understand this if I were requesting key words like "dishwasher, Sprint, Canned Tomatoes.....etc..." BUT...I'm registering the names of porn stars AND PAYING FOR THEM for Christ's sake.

Cocksuckers.

A lot of the engines do that now. They are trying to keep adult sites away from general terms. The problem is a lot of them don't understand that someone searching for a porn star name IS searching for porn. Not some sort of bio or something main stream.

Yup had the same problem with them. Adult URL: Non-Adult Term . The funny thing is the site i was sending traffic to was not really an adult site. They got a bunch of moron reviewers there.

Oh boy, I wish you would have done a search about Overture before using them. They are the biggest pain to buy traffic from of any PPC search engine. Anyways, to answer your question, they have a master list of approved adult keywords. If you submit a keyword which is not on this list, they will reject you, no possibility of appealing. Now they won't share with you the list either (go figure why, they claim its a trade secret) but I have a script which can figure out if a keyword is on their adult list or not. If you email me your list, I'll send you back the list of which ones are adult and which ones are not. You still have a big challenge in front of you to prove relevancy and to give them a username/password. I know its a huge headache but they do have a lot of traffic if you can ever get listed.

Just wait until you get some really creative rejection notices. I once submitted a TCG site, got them a username/password and they rejected all of my listings because one of the upsell links in the members areas went to a videostore in which that videostore sold a torture film. The adult keyword list is going to be the least of your concerns after a few more rejections

IJust keep submitting the same listing requests again and again, and don't try to find any sense in their replies, that could lead to instant madness

And write them a few emails and tell them that they're idiots (in a polite way), that works for me most of the time.

I just started working with Overture and it's been a bloody nightmare.. they even rejected lesbian webcam as a non adult term. It absolutely floored me. I've encountered the "there is something being advertised on your site that Overture does not wish to be connected to"... who the hell knows what that one was all about. It was just a free site for christ sakes. But, if you're doing anything softcore, in the lesbian or gay realm or web cam it's damn tough to get any by them. So far, i'm running about a 40% approval rate on the above terms but I have to get it down to a science to get a 100% approval rate.

I've got it down to about a 95% approval rating (of the ones on their adult list), but I usually go through 3-4 rounds of rejections and appeals.

t/d rejections are the most common. For these types of rejections, Overture wants you to put the keyword into the title and descriptions and most of the time you can get them included. You should also have the same content on the landing page.

Overture is a real pain but things might improve. Appearently the same guy who's responsible for the adult space on Inktomi is taking on the Overture adult space as well. He's been quite reasonable in the past, although I have no idea how much latitude he'll have with Overture.

I hate to say this, but I hope they don't improve. It creates a barrier to entry, more people will give up trying to get listed and keep the bids and competition lower.
