Should a sponsor pay when I close my account?

Say I've been sending a sponsor traffic for a while now with pretty ordinary results, I've realised that my traffic does better things in other places.

Should they payout all money owing (regardless of min payout) when I close down my account?

I'm thinking yes and another sponsor I closed down my acct with were more than happy to.

(yup I know I should read the T&C)

It would be the honest thing to do. Doubt it happens very often.

If its going to be your final check, then I think that's reasonable.

Most good sponsors will pay out remaining funds even if it's below the minimum, if you ask them to.

It would make sense for them to payout. But like you mentioned yourself they can refuse if they have it as otherwise in the T&C.

why would you want to close the account? Its probably a PPS sponsor, but some sales may come later from old sites.

All links are centrally controlled, so when I remove a sponsor there is no old links lying around (assuming once they're out of google cache etc.).

They ain't going to do it! The only one I know of who paid off all they owed everyone, was Go Entertainment when they went down. They were a respectable sponsor! The others should take lessons. HINT!

If a surfer bookmarked one of your pages, then went back to it looking for the specific sponsor they'd seen the tour for, you'd end up without a sale.

IMO, there's really no reason to close down an account with a sponsor, unless you can't make the minimum and they will pay you the balance without your reaching it. Of course if I were a sponsor that did pay you for below minimum sales, I'd also make sure that once your account was closed, you wouldn't be allowed back in. I'm sure your intentions are good, but just like the surfer that always cancels during a trial and then goes and gets another trial, it just seems a bit shady to me.

No, they shouldn't pay.

One reason there is a min payout is to reduce fraud from webmaster affiliates.
Paying you when you decide to quit defeats the min payout protection against fraud.

I like to join a recurring site before I decide to promote it heavily. If I then decide to not promote the site(after downloading everthing), I can just quit and get all my money back.
What's to stop the surfer from doing the same???
Hey, dude...check this out: "Click the webmaster link and signup then join the site. Quit the webmaster program after referring yourself and you'll get a check for all your money back! Beter yet, join on a $1.95 trail with a $40 payout and quit before the trail ends and you profit $38.05 when you join the site".

Solution: Sponsor should pay a webaster who quits if:
1. They have already recieved at least one check for the min before
2. The min was raised after webmaster joined and prev min was met
3. Webmaster has referred an active webmaster who has met the min.

Futher: $100 mins should be reduced for long term webmasters.
I kind of think it's bullshit for me to have been with a sponsor for 5 years
and recieved many checks already but still have to make the min during a slow period when I'm probably not pushing the site as much since it is 5 years old.

except when the linking code redirects to a no aff info url there's no chance.

Thanks for your opinions guys, might just let it go... pretty small amount so not worth the time to continue arguing.

it kind of depends how long you have been an affiliate. If you have been there for a while and are moving on, never to return, sure, why not.

If you are new, and only made one signup, I wouldn't hold my breath.

they will pay, however if you terminated the agreement then there might be no liable reason for them to pay, you broke/ended the agreement, however
I believe theyll pay if you got that minimum.. read the terms and conditions and youll probably find something about this

Regardless if min payout is reached or not, from my experience "close my account" requests are blatantly ignored. Tried it with a few sponsors and none did it

Lets just say most honest ones will cause you would come here and bitch if they didn't pay you and thats a lot of bad publicity for US$40.

You made the money its fair they pay you. I certainly would with my affilates whatever they earn they deserve.

The problem for some might be that they know if you made $50 or $100, then they earned $5 for check cutting / mailing + $x for payment of content, hosting, pure profit etc.
so if you earned like $25 for 1 signup and their basic earning for that is $4 and the check processing would cost $5 then they would have a loss just to be nice and pay you. I would still pay though, but I would let you pay the costs / loss with deductions from the check or let the money stay in your account untill you might wanted to give it a try again at a later point.
