I could be a rep. for a sponsor for $3k per month.
But I rather don't go to shows, I could only offer permanent support via email/icq/boards ( definitely more than 8 hours, i would probably do it also on weekends/holidays etc ).

I simply have LOTS of time, since most things I make money with don't require much or any work.

But then again, I hope to open my own program in a few months so I will do everything for myself

I know a sales rep for a big company whose accounts bring in over 10K joins a month to his program.
He makes a "few" dollars per join from his accounts, plus a base salary.

You can do the math yourself.

The question is do you want to spend the big $$ to bring in someone with a big contact list....who can get the big mailers and SE guys pushing you. (You can forget this if you don't have the cash to pay per sign up)

Or do you want to get someone cheap to just handle small support shit for the new webmasters that sign up for your program because of advertising you bought or word of mouth or whatever.

Remember the "KNOWN" reps as you put it already have jobs....so you'll have to give them more than they're getting now to get them to jump ship, especially if you and your company aren't a known quantity in this biz.

Since, my name has popped up a few times in this thread, thought I would chime in with a few thoughts...

Also, many times help newbies increase the productivity of their sites by giving them knowledge I've gained over the last 7 or so years in the biz.

I think there's a number of factors when you talk about "affiliate mgrs", Some are nothing but glorified board posters, which is fine and others like myself do much more!

Some of the things I do or have done:

Build custom ads, custom tours, new sites, etc..
Take clients to sporting events, dinners or drinks.
Setup to fly certain clients down to Florida or different places for a nice vacation and to hang out.
Give clients good contacts for different things they might need. hosting, content, etc.
Get custom scripts and etc. built for clients.
Press releases, posting, advertising.
Phone support, email and icq support.
Generate new business from my extensive contact list.
Monitor sales, Cbs, etc... catch fraud and cheaters.
Offer a wealth of new ideas to grow the biz.
Go to shows and wm events.

and a few other things, but don't want to give out all my secrets...

So if you want to do some business, hit me up... Not all affiliate mgrs are created equal...

I need to start emailing these threads to Zimm and pointing out I'm underpaid, lol! $10K a month plus commissions? Where do I sign up

As far as what I personally do:

I solicit for traffic on and off the boards, at shows, etc.

I help those who are signed up - even if they aren't "my" account - this includes helping n00bs (though I cheat if they start with "How do I set up a website?" and send them to the newbie boards), getting graphics for mailings and exits, monitoring traffic trades, tracking down payments, finding good deals for our mailers, helping maximize conversions, working on special deals, promoting contests, calling the tech guys and waking them up if there's a problem - they love that ;), and more.

Help out with fraud problems

Deal with Gabe and Cory <------ Should get paid mucho extra $$$$ for that!!

30k+ a month seems a lot to be paying for just a sales rep, I wonder how many of those accounts would still send traffic if they got rid of the sales rep

^ this is why i mentioned the "sign up under me if you need help"

"sorry SxyRep19, i signed up 3 years ago"

people working on commission dont really want to help anyone they arent making "a few bucks off"

There's very few good sales reps. It's rare that you have breakout stars like WEG Cory.

Nothing against them, but all they do is give you the answer for questions like "can I use sponsor content for galleries", and "hey, can you please get me another check cut please?". Thats fucking it from what I have come across. And ten grand someone here was mentioning a month for this sort of work? Obviously ok, there are other tasks they do, but from an affiliate point of view, thats all we see, and if asked anything else about suggestions for improving click throughs, galleries etc,? They have no clue. None I have come across anyhow. Maybe I'm missing something.

haha, this thread is funny. Sorry, sales reps don't make as much as dales reps like you to think. $10K a month plus comision??? Give me a break. Try $1500 a month plus commision and your getting a bit warmer. Thats what an average sales rep makes around here.

I am amazed that your bringing this to gfy - a good rep goes beyond one board - and has a solid history of webmasters - not just sucking up.

the ones you mention are outstanding people and well respected and I count them as friends... but to start getting into a pissing match regarding salaries vs commissions is wrong. If your looking for a solid person, then you must first have a company that has the value for them to even consider working for you. Even the best of us can only make a small difference if the program isnt there for us to work with.

Fortunately where I am working, they allowed me free reign and sales have tripled and webmaster hits to the site have gone from 2k a day to over 50k and growing. We went from monthly updates to daily and much much more.

I am not able to mention the other adult webmaster boards that are able to provide more assistance but if you contact me on icq I am more than willing to point you in the right direction... but please... these guys who are marketing and sales representatives are outstanding - and have kept many webmasters growing - for just that - they deserve your respect.

actually your right on. many companies hire attractive reps simply for show - yet they are short term. I have a great deal of respect for the women who make it not because they are intelligent - but that they can survive a stereotyped world in being beautiful while being intelligent.

Owners and some companies do hire off the street hoping that fresh blood will lead to a more stronger sales mentality of calling etc. trying to find someone who will click. Yet you raise a good point - the ones that survive and keep clients are the ones who can offer some solid advice and assistance. Those sales reps read / learn - even after they got the sale.

I honestly feel that true sales start after the order is taken.

Dwreck is Top notch when it comes to being a sales rep in fact he is very good at his job.

from time to time we talk about ideas and share knowledge I have learned a few things from him just as I have shared my knoweldge with him

dont hate Dwreck cause he is good at his job!

as for what they should make depends on what they can bring to the table.

I do consulting for companies and it really depends on what they want. If you need someone to manage accounts and thats it then pay them commissions with a small base 30K a year

If you want someone thats going to be doing a lot of project management and working on your program more then just manageing accounts your going to have to pay them more because thier time will be taken up with non commission type work

when I worked for Lightspeedcash Steve was very generous in how he paid his employees and me and rochard shares 24% of the profits every month

so it really comes down to what do you want them to do for you

if you have any questions hit me up
