| well, thats technology for ya... but anyway. im not a big gamer. just looking for something that isn't a huge space hog... and runs @ a decent speed with a good sized hard drive. obviously, the processor is important... the monitor picture is also important for obvious viewing purposes |

I just invested a few years back on a new topnotch computer and it's still banging today. Just get enough ram and you should be cooking for a long time, I personally got 2gigs and it's sufficient to do anything I want. However I don't play games, I assume you need the latest videocards and stuff for that.

 | stay under a grand?! your not gonna do that and get anything of serious quality, a good video card is $300, another $200-300 for a gig of ram. Your budget is gone half gone and you've not even touched the rest of the components. |

IMO you wond find anything "unreplaceable" in that range. Then again it doesnt seem like you need anything 'badass'. Might as well hitup circuitcity.com

 | If you play games get a DELL XPS or Alienware 3.6ghz laptop with 800 FSB, 2 gig ram, 60 gig 7200 rpm HD. 256meg graphics card. I have a DELL XPS and its faster than any desktop you've probalby ever seen. Its not a laptop its LAN gamer but super fast for video processing, games, anything you want. Matt |

What are your thoughts of Gateway? Their packages are a bit overpriced (for what you get, imo), but what do you all think of Gateway... ?
