Some of those vbulletin boards have a HUGE membership. If you have a network of these things like some people do, it can really add value to your online portfolio. Vbulletin forums (non-adult) with as little as 3,000 members have been sold for 5K or more.

Sorry for my ignorance POed-poster, but what does the BM in "BM traffic" stand for?

Thanks

So you're using it as an email gathering tool? Interesting idea. One thing you will need to watch out for is the hotlinking and password trading. Porn surfers who frequent adult forums usually do so for the purpose of pic trading and password trading. Here's the catch 22. If like some boards you let your surfers do anything they want, you'll likely piss off some webmasters. On the other hand, if you enforce rules too closely, the surfers will go away and be far less likely to remain on your mailing lists. (It they like the forums, they'll usually put up with a reasonable amount of spam).

BM traffic = Bookmark traffic, traffic you get from surfers who add your site to their favorites.

Hmmm... I guess that makes sense too

Blogmade traffic = Bookmark traffic = An asset on the balance sheet of your online business.

Thanks.

An asset, indeed. One the biggest mistakes we have made over the years in adult is to focus too much on one time hits. 'Build crappy sites', they told us, 'get that surfer over to your sponser as quickly as possible Don't let him use up all your BW'. While that philosophy does work, I really started making money when I started building sites that surfers wanted to come back to. We often forget that surfers who sign up to one porn site usually sign up to several over the years at different times. If he keeps coming back to your site, you can keep making money off him.

holy fuck dude, stop, you are giving me goosebumps.

You are starting to sound like me. FYI, I built a couple of free sites -- just ideas I had.. and cuz of their uniqueness (and lack of popups/spam/hardsell) I have built up a ton of bookmarkers and direct typeins over the years.

You better be careful though - lots of haters on this board - thinking we are "giving away secrets".

But no matter, the business law of "survival of the fittest" sorts everyone out in the end.

Now the blog I'm talkin' about was in the BDSM niche - whips/chains/bondage etc...

Alot of surfers that love the BDSM niche know about a great paysite called

http://www.hogtied.com

This person's blog was called:

http://www.blogtied.com

Now that is brilliant branding. And its a quality blog too. Not just a cool name - it delivers. Part of your branding strategy should be making sure your blog delivers to a specific niche or topic.

Now what site do you I think is going to pop into my head whenever I am in the mood to see a few funky pics of girls being restrained?

I am going to Blogtied cuz I know I am going to see the latest pics, updated news, hints, types of rope I should use when tying up that hot chick I just met, etc.

I didn't even have to bookmark it. And I am telling my friends.
Thanks, PornHero. That *was* one of my better domain-buying moments.

However, I just bought bondageblog.com, which is way more search-engine friendly. The branding is nice, but simple keyword brands still rule in a search engine world.

I'm planning to move the blog at Blogtied.com to bondageblog.com and put together a BDSM blogging portal of some sort at Blogtied. So I'll still be putting the brand to good use!

I think most people here know that to make money in this business, you need to constantly try new ideas. You need to be able to recognize something when it's hot, not when everyone is doing it. Then it's usually too late. The old free site/galleries model still works, but it isn't as profitable as it once was (at least for me). Newbies are still coming into this biz as gallery builders and TGP submitters and are failing because they don't realize how difficult the TGP game is these days (and they don't know what they're doing). We should be encouraging them to come up with new ideas instead of leading them on the path to destruction.

My take on things:

Fuck the haters who think we are giving away secrets. Unless your in my office watching my keystrokes each passing hour of the day you don't know any of my secrets.

Also when I give advice on servers it's a subject I know I can speak about with confidence. Am I afraid of giving secrets away in that feild? No way. It took years to get my knowledge. You are not going to learn what I know overnight.

My advice on sites? Most of you can't name 3 out of the 200 domains I own. You don't have a clue which sponsors I am signed up with and not signed up with.

All this talk aboput secrets is unbelievable. You only grow in this business by trying things yourself. You actually think 50% of whats on these boards are real information? You need to sift through all the information on these boards and find the nuggets that lay in the cracks.

There are people on these boards struggling trying to make a living out of this. These people are trying to find out who to listen to and who not to. Problem is the bullshit on these boards are so thick you need boots to figure it out.

My suggestion? Before you try anything out get opinions. Do the bullshit test on things, think things out before you act. If you're looking for post counts to get opinions from you might want to look closely at this board and the people on it. There is companies that hire people to run post counts up. And most of what certain people say? search their previous threads. See what they may have said in the past.

BTW It's sunday here in good ole dixie land and the race is on ... time for me to be a redneck.

Haters flame away.

Wow - Hi Forkbread,

Nice to cybermeet you

Congrats on the awesome domain names and wicked blog. I fucking love that pic you have up of the latina wife with the phat ass being drawn behind the Jeep like a carriage.

This industry is starting to mature. People are chilling out from going for the quick overnight buck and stressing where their income will come from tomorrow in exchange for the longterm, solid stable income from various sources. Instead of just building pages, we are building businesses.

And the person that is seriously in this for the longterm just needs to make there presence known to me and I'll help them out as much as I can based on my mainstream and online business experience. We can all learn from each other. There is enough sales to go around that's for sure.

Ok, ok I'll say it -- "Why cant we all just get along?"

Forkbeard, thanks so much for posting, I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to sign up for the TopPornBlogs.com toplist. see my sig for the link please.

I am also curious -- did someone tell you about the post I made or did you just read it by chance? I had no idea who owned www.blogtied.com

Some interesting points about the recent blog fad.

IMO, there seems to be a big difference between the traditional blog and the new, standard porn blogs. Will porn blogs that resemble freesites, toplists etc. be as successful as the 'real' blogs?

I think the surfer will decide. If you make your pornblog full of USEFUL unique information/content related to your topic then they will come back. No annoying popups or lies and exaggerated claims. Don't try to sell them something that is offtopic of your pornblog. You may be able to fool them into the first or second visit but if all they find is crap and attempts to sell them and not that unique content (talk to your surfer!) that they are looking for then they ain't coming back. I think Google will see through it too

here is a good example of what I consider a pornblog: www.blogtied.com

So how do you guys do 2 completely different blogs on the same domain with only one copy of wordpress? With differnet links and everything?

NICE! How do I get mine to do that? It looks like this has something to do with that permalinks feature, but I'm kinda clueless. So, do I make a post like normal, and then I do something else, or do I not even start the normal way? TIA.

Here is a quick brainstorm idea in regards to Branding for your site.

Aim to have people typing in your brandname + what they are looking for in the search engines. What I mean is if you branded your paris hilton section "SpoiledRich: Paris Hilton" and your other section "SpoiledRich: Lindsay Lohan" then you might start getting people searching for SpoiledRich Britney Spears.

What another way to brand?
try using subdomains:
http://parishilton.spoiledrich.com
http://lindsaylohan.spoiledrich.com

Build out subdomains for just about every superstar then as people hit those pages you can see who is in most demand and capturing your own "Search traffic."

I hope you understand what I mean.

Build your brandname in your entries too, here is an example of what you can write at the bottom of one of your Paris Hilton entries: "Well, that's it from SpoiledRich: Lindsay Lohan for today. Make sure to check out SpoiledRich: Paris Hilton to see what the hotel heiress is up to today.

Then you may start working on Spoiled Rich: Britney Spears.

Start launching different blogs based on which slut is coming up most on your SE stats. Is it Spoiled Rich jennifer Lopez? then you know what blog to start next.

These are all longterm strategies that will pay off over the years you are in the business.

Just an idea.

Oh and about opening links in new windows. I would think the opposite. The sites that you want to be sticky you give the surfer the respect by opening in the same window. If someone wants to leave your site by clicking on another site link then let it open in the same page.

Of course there are times when popping open in a new window makes more sense. All I am saying is dont be paranoid about losing traffic cuz you are opening in a new window. Spend that energy on pleasing your visitor while he/she is on your site. You dont see google and yahoo, some of the stickiest sites on the net popping open new windows all over the place.

I am adding your links to my blog now:
http://www.pornsiteupdates.com
Thanks for the link trade! I put you up on all 3 blogs. Very good points on branding! Yeah, I can already tell from clicks that people are diggin the name SpoiledRich. I was really surpised the domain was still open to tell ya the truth. We're gonna have to agree to disagree on new windows. I've been doing that with 90% of my links since '98 or so, and find that's one habit I don't wanna give up!

I've learned something in all of this. Blogging is a COMMUNITY thing. You have to let go of the conventional website stuff and learn how these things work. You post on your blog, trackback, let others trackback to you, hard link with various others, etc. and you see traffic.

If you're into a certain tight niche, i.e. Forkbeard with spankingblog.con or Myself with DominatrixBlog.com then your traffic become not only loyal but productive.

Thanks for teaching Me.

BTW: There are no SECRETS to blogging. Quit playing 007 and get with the program.

NICE! How do I get mine to do that? It looks like this has something to do with that permalinks feature, but I'm kinda clueless. So, do I make a post like normal, and then I do something else, or do I not even start the normal way? TIA.

Sorry, I read that wrong . . . ummm, I will have to go look it up . . .brb

A trackback should be relevant. So you want to go to someone's blog, and if you read something that you want to make a comment on, you comment by making the entry on your site instead of on their site. Inserting the trackback URL in the appropriate spot will not only put the entry on your site, but on their comments page

The basics of this business are NOT secrets. In the mainstream world, giving away secrets can cost you $$, but not in this business. If you're a sponsor, it is in your best interest to make sure your webmasters know what they're doing. If they make money, you make money. Even if you're not a sponsor, a newbie might sign up to a sponsor using your referral code. Since you then get a % of whatever he/she makes, it's in YOUR best interest to hope that the webmaster does well. Nobody profits when a fellow webmaster fails, unless he/she is just an idiot and we want them to go away.

Wow! A board that actually ENCOURAGES webmasters to spam? Do you charge webmasters for posting? How will you make $$ from this?

No offense intended, but if someone needs to pay for blog entries, they really should think twice about starting a blog.

Wow.. i never knew that people thought it was a good idea to build a crappy site.. I just figured people knew the better site you build, the better chance you have to make good money

I really started making money when I started building sites that surfers wanted to come back to. We often forget that surfers who sign up to one porn site usually sign up to several over the years at different times. If he keeps coming back to your site, you can keep making money off him.
Agreed.. I still have members who signed up 5 years ago and have kept their membership, and then whenever i have a new project or suggest they check out a partner site.. they go for it because they trust you will continue to provide them with good service.

Good points Tala

lol, you're right I think 'secrets' is a bad term for the 'hints' that are in this thread. All the information in this thread is already available somewhere on the internet.

Right on, thanks to everyone that contributed in this thread. Whether it be a question, answer, or simply reading/learning (increasing the viewcounts)

While everyone's checking out the blog traffic method, please make sure to read up on RSS and syndication to maximize your blog's potential. Also, based on our recent traffic generation activities... surfer forums are a great way to filter traffic to a quality high latency user pool. Be careful how you post your content samples though... you want to maximize the $25 to $35 per signup paysite sponsors. The good news is even if you get highly experienced users, if you control the forum, you can easily cash them in using dating sites.

For more info on forums, check out our blog again ( ) http://justtraffic.blogspot.com

Actually, the webmasters we help run many differing campaigns. So they leverage a small amount of their capital by letting us do their blog entries/fhg daily features and other blog-related labor.
