that's actually nothing too spectacular

i'm in Bucharest right now and here the entire city is wired up with fiber optic. It's one giant LAN.. I routinely get stuff at 3-4 megabytes/second as there are tons of dc hubs open

I'd say there are close to 300 000 people in this lan so you always have plenty of stuff to get locally.

Internet access is mostly reserved for browsing, icq, yahoo, etc

nothing too spectacular? it's a little village waaay up in the hills of Italy that's all wired up with high-speed internet access. It's very unique and not something anyone would expect.

Bucharest is the capital of Romania and has a population of over 2 million people. I would expect it to have a good telecommunications system in place. Bucharest being wired up is not spectacular, but the little village up in the hills of Italy is.
