I need to know the easiest way to transfer info from one hard drive to another...getting a new computer is kinda a pain in the ass!
I have some crossover cables, but I'm not exactly sure how to do this - and no, it didn't come with instructions. I was told the IP's need to be the same on both computers in order to use it? ![]() |

i usually just burn all the important stuff and get rid of the rest. I usually only need about 2 gigs out of 60 on my hard drive lol

ohhhh ... it'd be easier if you just had a router. in this case you need both pc's in the same WORKGROUP in the network card area. Share the hard drive on the old pc, property click it etc. then in the new pc, simply map the network drive to the \\PCNAME\SharedC:DRIVE Name and drag files.
not exactly childsplay, but hope that gets you going. |

give one computer an ip of 192.168.0.1 give the other computer and ip of 192.168.0.2.
use 255.255.255.0 as your mask on both. start an ftp server on one and the use an ftp client on the other to transfer the files. You can also make them part of the same work group in windows networking and then share the drives. |

If you hook both computers up on a router, you can network them and
Share the files and drag and drop. But, something I have found is Tranfering from one computer to another in the same House is 2 ICQ accounts. I just sent my designer a huge zip file and it hit speeds of 2000K a second. |
