Gold, Platinum, Multi-Platinum, Diamond Awards for websites?

It would be interesting to see an industry award for websites, based strictly on lifetime gross sales, like the music industry does.

Silver for $100k in total sales, Gold for $500k, Platinum for $1m, Multi-Platinum for $2m, Diamond for $10m.

Lightspeedcash has 10 Silver, 2 Gold, 5 Platinum, and 2 Multi-Platinum sites by this standard.

What other sites would be Platinum or higher?
-------------------------------------------------------------

In the United States, Gold, Platinum, Multi-Platinum, and Diamond awards are granted by the Recording Industry Association of America based on certified album sales. These titles are legally registered by the RIAA and cannot be awarded or used by anyone else in the U.S. without authorization.

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry administers a similar award system for a number of countries excluding the United States. This system includes Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond award categories and is generally based on the RIAA system, although U.S. sales are not included in the counts.

The RIAA Gold award program was begun in 1958 to recognize records that sold over 500,000 copies. In 1976, the RIAA added the Platinum title to specify 1 million albums sold. The first Platinum album certified by the RIAA was The Eagles' Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975. That album has now sold over 26 million copies in the U.S. and was the best-selling album of the 20th century.

In the mid-Eighties, a boom in the industry prompted the creation of a Multi-Platinum category for albums with 2 million or more units sold. The music video industry fueled further growth in record sales for the next decade, and in 1999, the RIAA lauched the Diamond award program for albums selling 10 million copies. Since its inception, the Diamond award has been granted to numerous bands, from the Beatles to the Backstreet Boys.

Music has the benefit of independant adjudicators who can verify claims. Unless site operators are prepared to open their books, (I know that I am not), then the awards will be less credible than even the existing web site 'awards'.

Actually music sales are dumbed down... this way they can pay the artist less.. so a 2.5 million album will actually sell 3.25 million copies.
