ICRA.org under WinProxy. Don't have clue on how to get it work. Your help is required

I have connected my son's PC to the Internet as a WinProxy client. Then I tried to install ICRA on it. Unfortunately the Internet doesn't work there... I'm getting a 500 Internal Server error each time when I'm trying to open some website on son's computer. Is there anyone who has a clue on how to get it work?

Cyber, I'm not sure, but the reason for lack of replies might be that your question is somewhat confusing. I don't understand what you mean by "install icra on it," or by "the internet doesn't work there." ICRA is an organization, and it has a website, but to my knowledge it's not the name of a program you could install.

1) when I wrote "install icra on it", I mean that I have installed ICRAplus program on that computer;
2) when I wrote "the internet doesn't work there", I mean that Internet doesn't work at all (browser doe not open the URL's, ping, tracert and other tools can't see the Net as well).

Sorry for lack of explanation, but I think now EVERYTHING should be clear.

I was unfamiliar with icraplus. Interesting. No suggestions for you, other than not using icraplus. IE's content advisor works to some extent. For younger kids, who aren't typing in URLs yet, I'd suggest making a custom home page with just the links you want.

ICRA has unfortunately done a miserable job of popularizing filtering. They've complicated labeling for webmasters, and seem to have made filtering harder for browser makers, through self-interested patents and trademarks. They don't provide any well-integrated icra support themselves, and now they've released this amateur-looking OS-specific hack, while at the same time hawking commercial products directly from their website.

arg, my son is 10y.o. and he is able to type in the URL's, so I need a real filtering system but not just a self-made page. What system would you suggest? NetNanny, CyberPatrol or something else?

If you're concerned about accidental exposure, I'd use Firefox, block popups, and teach and reteach about not installing crapware. Youth-oriented sites in particular pound kids with ads for crapware, since they're relatively gullible, with ploys like "free dolphin/rockstar/kitten/nascar themes" or "more animated smileys for your chat program." Then they load up their homepage and bookmarks with links to porn, drugs, gambling, and other age-inappropriate material.

Mistyping domains is safer than it used to be, since most typos for mainstream sites go to a text-based pay-per-click landing page anyway. The guy who redirected disney typos straight to explicit hardcore is in prison, and Congress passed a law discouraging other Americans from such egregious misdirection. Heavy google spammers are more likely to cause problems

If you're concerned with your son seeking out adult material, I dunno, probably either of those programs would be good. I'd be more inclined to discourage seeking it, and maybe snoop his browser history occasionally so you can provide further guidance if you think it's warranted. At ten, I doubt he's interested anyway, but in a couple years, it would be more abnormal if he *didn't* sneak a peak at playboy.com or something when a friend's over. If you're really concerned with any exposure, I'd look into using AOL or Earthlink for their parental control features.

Just bought NetNany. Tested it on several sites, and I could say it works really great!
