The thing is, lately the Democratic party is FAR more fiscally conservative then the Republicans so that whole argument is a moot point. We went from a balanced budget with Clinton to where we are now :Oh crap
In addition I am against the war in Iraq, pro-choice, against censorship and against having the government dictate to me what they think is moral or immoral.
I don't give a shit about affirmative action or some of the Dem's other special interests, but other then that my decision is real easy.

There are a lot of very intelligent people in the Democratic party, many of whom have very liberal points of view. The recent election showed that middle America does not share far left views. If anything, the Democrat should have learned that they need to move a little more to the center in order to have any kind of chance in 2008. To her credit, Hillary Clinton has at least begun to make overtures to the middle and right. Unfortunately, she can't win. The reason I suggested Gore is that he is a moderate from a red state. He doesn't scare conservatives the way that Kerry and Hillary do.

The sad reality here is that while the Democrats complain about how the Republican party has been taken over by right wing nuts, it has become all too clear that the Democratic party has been taken over by left wing nuts. As 2004 showed, right wing nuts usually beat left wing nuts in elections.

How could anyone understand that Democratic core principles? Nobody ever talks about them. I know the Democrats have a three time purple heart winner, that's about it.

If the Big G runs gor prez, he will win. But if not, Hillary has a pretty damn good shot. There are a lot of women in the country that would love to see her win.

It might be unpopular to say, but in this country at this time, noone has a chance of winning a presidential except a straight white male. I would love to see a woman or minority in the white house, but it won't happen in our lifetime. Too many poeple will vote against Hillary JUST BECAUSE she is a woman, as sad as that might be to say. Moreover, Hillary KNOWS this. She will be forever fameous if she wins the Democratic nomination. She would be the first woman to ever do so. But she will be clobbered in the general election, regardless of who the Republicans put up against her. She is a strong woman, which to most right wing conservative men (and women) means that she is a bitch. I'll say it again ... SHE CAN'T WIN.

If she really cared about the party, she would recognize this and NOT RUN. But she is too intent on becoming fameous and outdoing her husband to care.

The Democrats don't talk about their 'core principle' because they know how unpopular they are in red America. Any Democrat who openly supports gay marriage and abortion rights will not win a single state in red America.

Hillary running for president would be the best case scenerio for the republican party.

It is actually much simpler than that. She can't win because she is a STRONG woman. America is too conservative to accept a female leader. Far too many people in this country still think a woman's place is in the home. This prejudice is too much to overcome for any woman. SHE CAN'T WIN.

I went back and was looking at some stuff. What you may have been thinking is that Bush got more total votes than any other candidate in your history. that is true he did get more total votes than anyone ever has. It wasn't the biggest win, but he did get the most total votes ever. the 2004 election in general had the largest total number of votes ever cast so it ends up ( at least for now all this may change in the next election ) Bush has recieved the most votes in one election in history and kerry is #2.

If you look only for an election with two candidates , a repub and a dem, then you have to go all the way back to 2000 where Gore actually got more votes then bush did but didn't win the electoral college. The time before that was in 76 when carter got more votes than ford.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you misstyped this. If not, I think you agreed with and complimented me. Some of it doesn't make any sense relative to what I said.

I'll admit I don't know many, if any, of the democrats core principles other than they seem to want universal healthcare. I can't think of any others off the top of my head. But, on the same wave, I can't really think of any core conservative principles other than " lets make all TV and radio like it was in 1953."

You and I really shouldn't make an arguement about popular vote because thats not what wins elections.

If popular vote was key to winning, the candidate might have taken different strategies. Neither one would have gone outside new york, texas or california.

If a republican loses new York by 50 million votes or by 1 vote, its still the same result. He could spend time there and get more votes, but still lose the electoral votes. He is better advised to spend his time elswhere.

the electoral college is, to me, an outdated system that should either be done away with or revamped. But for now it is the system we have so it is ver possible to lose the the popular vote by a large margine and still win the election.

At this point in the last election cycle Gore was the "presumptive" nominee, considering the fact that he had won the popular vote in 2000.

Very few knew anything about John Kerry and nobody knew shit about Howard Dean.

Also on the republican side McCain is far from a sure thing....he's very old and would likely only serve 1 term if elected president. The right might want to go another way with someone younger.

The reason Hillary seems so popular right now is just name recognition.....if she'd never been the first lady we wouldn't be having this discussion.
