BLOCKBUSTER VIDEO IS FRAUDULENT AND DECEPTIVE; NEW "NO MORE LATE FEES" POLICY CARRIES HIDDEN CHARGES

Customers charged purchase price for overdue videos.

BlackNews.com encourages Blacks to stay away from the company.

Newark, NJ (BlackNews.com) - Everyone has seen the Blockbuster Video television commercials that chant "No More Late Fees" and "It's Over". However, a recent law suit against Blockbuster by the state of New Jersey is indicating that Blockbuster still charges customers with hidden late fees.

According to the Attorney General and Division of Consumer Affairs, Blockbuster failed to disclose in its advertisements (1) that overdue rentals are automatically converted to a sale on the eighth day after the due date; and (2) that if customers return the overdue items within 30 days after the "sale" date, Blockbuster will reverse the sale charge, but charge a restocking fee. The complaint also alleges that Blockbuster fails to prominently disclose that some of its stores do not participate in the "No More Late Fees" policy and continue to charge late fees.

"Blockbuster boldly announced its 'No More Late Fees' policy, but has not told customers about the big fees they are charged if they keep videos or games for more than a week after they are due," Attorney General Harvey said. "Blockbuster's ads are fraudulent and deceptive. They lead people to believe that an overdue rental will cost them absolutely nothing when, in fact, customers are being ambushed with (a) late fees in some stores, (b) so-called 'restock fees,' and (c) credit card or membership account charges equal to the purchase price of the video."

In an effort to warn African-Americans about the Blockbuster deception, BlackNews.com covered the story and sent a press release to the Black media.

"Blockbuster Video definitely has deceptive practices in New Jersey and every other state in this country," comments Dante Lee, founder of BlackNews.com. "There are thousands of Blockbuster locations in Black neighborhoods, and we're encouraging African-Americans to stay away from the company."

John Doe has another 6.9 days on top of that to return the movie late

If no penalty is put in place then John Doe will not give a shit and will bring back the movie late.

If people can't deal with the new Blockbuster rules, then they shouldn't reproduce

14 days to return a movie is pretty fair, if you don't return it within 14 days you will probably end up keeping it forever, so that's why they treat it as a sale... the whole deal seems reasonable...

I totally agree, but you don't make a T.V. commercial advertising no late fee's when in fact that is not the case.

They don't charge any late fees. You can keep the movie a week late, free of charge. After that, it converts to a sale (minus what you already paid for the rental). And if you return it within 30 days, they'll credit that minus a $1.50 restocking fee.

I understand what you mean, I know how to read, but as I was saying is that you don't make a commercial like that, it is misleading. If you keep a movie for more than 14 days you deserve to have to buy it, however the commercial is very misleading

I have a black friend named harold sitting right here beside me who feels he benifits from the same things in that list as me, if not even some things I don't benifit from. Alot of stuff listed in there as a "white privilege" is now mainstream bi-racial privileges, provided one makes the right choices. I've seen kids of both races grow up in the worst places and make something of themselves, i've also seen those who have grown up in great enviroments then make terrible life descisions. It's all up to the individual not society.

I'd like to add that I'm not saying racism dosn't exist. We all know it does exist in all forms.. " That sentence alone was one of the most racist things I've heard in the media recently, and I couldn't imagine anybody switching all the instances of the word "black" with the word "white" then publishing it? ...I guess my original post was just saying why aren't they warning everybody ? ... how is it a black thing? .. lol really hard to word this so it dosn't get taken wrong ... i just don't see how race should have been part of the subject at hand?
