Elton John is reportedly set to wed lover David Furnish in a lavish Christmas ceremony - after laws in Britain were changed to allow same-sex couples to marry.

The pop superstar was said to be thrilled when it was announced that gay couples will be able to notify Register Offices of their intention to form a civil partnership from December 5 2005 and can tie the knot by Christmas after a 15-day waiting period has passed. A friend of the couple told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Like every gay couple who want to marry they have kept a close eye on this proposal as it becomes law. Now a date has been fixed, the plans can really go ahead and they can get everything ready for a poignant ceremony.

"The fact that it is Christmas makes it even more special."

well same sex unions..and good for them

If it is the same law I have followed I like that there is a divorce process built into it with associated responsibilities.

I find it funny anyone he knows was talking to the Daily Star though.
