I want to be a mod! :)

There's too many surfers here and there to list them all... I'm sure most are one post wonders. The sad thing is, the most obnoxious ones accused of being a surfer are probably just the fake nicks of board regulars. :uhoh

yup

the fake nicks are WAY out of control, even with the elite gfy posters....it was fun for a while, but now it is just fucking annoying...there should be some sort of script that catches fake nicks...not sure how you could do it, but something should be done

Jace 02-23-2005 12:30 AM

you know, i did notice that one of juicy's fake nicks got banned earlier today, maybe that will be the start of some cracking whips on the matter

.

kid myself? LOL. the $5 is not to make Lens money... he can donate it to charity or use it for contests, perks, etc... the membership fee is to QUALIFY people to see if they are serious about this biz or not.

re: ad revenue

If someone is willing to pay $5 per month to be here and post, search, network, etc... then there's a high probability that person is serious... and a serious webmaster is WORTH 10X-100X more to advertisers then surfers, freeloaders or fly-by-night webmasters.

Even if Lens kept GFY the way it is and added a private VIP section for paid members to network, then he could charge advertisers a premium rate for that section and they'd pay it... for qualified targeted traffic.

If LENS ever wanted a popular adult surfer board he could create it in 1 day with his traffic/content... if he doesn't already have one. if he wants to maximize the "new" surfer traffic coming to GFY, then instead of re-routing GFY surfers directly to porn or shutting them out, find out how many want to learn more about getting into this business and allow those people to join a newbie board where he nurtures them and trains them only to promote his own affiliate programs in the beginning. There's going to be a small percentage of surfers that are entrepreneurs.

time will tell.

ProjectNaked 02-23-2005 12:33 AM

$10 a year, that's my final offer :)

smashface 02-23-2005 12:38 AM

^^^ A 19.95/month subscription fee was suggested earlier. Some scoffed at the fee being too little.

Most of the times the board is a bunch of shit posts about how do I look/ my cocks bigger than yours / smell my feet. It would be hard to to justify wasting 20 bucks a month.

those that say it's too little might not ever pay the $20. But at $5 month, anyone who complains probably has no reason to be here, and companies would not mind paying extra $5 each add'l employee/manager to come here to promote their products/services... at the $20 pricepoint... you will scare off many. plus even a noobie/budding webmaster who is serious about growing their biz can afford the $5.

but of course this is all irrelevant if Lens has no intention of ever charging. :) But we'll see in the coming weeks if the recent gfy-surfer spree will increase or die-off.

LOL, I love when people make comments and have no idea what's transpired the last few days... all over the web & media outlets, gfy.com is being mentioned EVERYWHERE as a free porn site, hacker haven, etc.

I have a contact in DC GOVT that has no idea this site exists, CORRECTION, they "HAD" no idea this site existed until the gfy domain was mentioned online & TV... the call I received was "Hey, did you know that Paris Hilton's camera phone got hacked by GFY.com?" I was floored. no shit...

another associate who is a real estate investor and rarely online asked me if the paris lesbian pics & celebrity phone number rumors were true and asked me to check out gfy.com for him.... when I asked him where he heard about the site... he said from friends and it was on TV.

I know other GFYers think that's cool, but I don't.

Not that it matters to Lens if I come here or not, but I use to come here everyday and network... and now it's down to once every 3-4 days because of the lack of business related threads/replies... even though this site has proven to be a valuable resource to me, this new surfer/agency-influx doesn't bode well.

bottom line... it doesn't matter to me whether GFY ever charges or not, but if you notice/care about the amount of surfer threads VS business threads here, and have paid attention to what the other adult boards are doing to re-launch/re-package their sites to be more business-focused, then you'd see that some drastic changes may be on the horizon. :2 cents:

Please ban that sickbeatz guy, he is such a fucking troll. I think anyone will agree hes a pain in the ass to everyone.

Kinda simple I think... Ban all hotmail, yahoo, etc email addresses (free ones) and require a real ISP address to get an account, then limit each ISP email account to one account here at GFY. Sure, theres many folks who have more than one ISP account, but still would cut down on the ammount of fake nicks.

maybe you should consider charging nominal monthly/annual fee for vip membership. $5/m or $25/yr that allows us to post, carry sigs, search, etc. Board could still function the same for those who just want to lurk and not pay... or perhaps charge everyone, it's best way to verify they are serious. Real webmasters won't mind paying for the opportunity to network and conduct real business... if they can't afford $5 month, then perhaps this is not the right time for them to be in this business.

I already pay for other boards (domains/franchises/mainstream) so the concept is not new and easily adopted, even by early-naysayers. As I've told you before, I'd be first in line to pay...

but if you start an affiliate program, please put everyone under my ID. :thumbsup

.

I agree. $25 a year.
:thumbsup

Good idea, but how about limiting it to an actual domain name they own..
let's face it 99% of webmasters have there own domain name email address..
[email protected]

I'll be VERY surprised if gfy goes pay, from personal experience lots of people say they will pay, but very few actually will, they'll just move onto someone elses forum that's still free :2 cents:
But having a new protected section could be an option..

Not a bad idea, but would be too time consuming for admins to verify I think. The email address thing can be and is done by script so its automatic.

TurboAngel 02-23-2005 06:47 AM

Thank you hun, there have been 4958676757 new people in the last few day's. I say get rid of all who signed up in the month of February.

Great idea :) This is supposed to be an industry board so anyone in the biz will definitely have their own domain.

BVF 02-23-2005 07:26 AM

Let me be a mod. I definitely won't sleep on the job.

Herb Kornfield 02-23-2005 07:58 AM

I think that all the new peeps will die down in a few weeks once the paris hilton shit blows over.....

*OR*... if you see an unusally high amount of new names signing up, restrict new sign up access for a week or so....... People that have been here for while will be around and those that are surfing away will get bored and look elsewhere.

nojob 02-23-2005 08:56 AM

Why not kick out the ones that do not belong on here. Then after that is finished make it invite only.

NickPapageorgio 02-23-2005 09:18 AM

If you do end up adding mods, you need to be sure to get one guy who is in the states and someone who is like 12 hours off in another country aswell. That way no troll goes unbanned. Muahahahaha....

blah @disposableporn.com

without having actual email accounts

it has to be controled at ip level
