It's also on most of the news web sites, but that is not how I want to remember him, because most of the journalism corps never understood him anyway.

I think the best way to remember Hunter S. Thompson now is in his own words:

I couldn't agree more. One of the most important cultural figures in America of the last half century. I hated his politics, but loved his humor, insights, and style. I thought I'd bust a gut watching Depp portray him in Fear and Loathing.... His description of Gonzo, his attorney, is one of tne of the great lines of modern literature:

"...one of God's own prototypes. Never even considered for mass production..."
