Nick, why is it that every time I make a comment on a board, you are there to slam me???? Got a Gonzo complex, little man??????????????

I was one of the original beta testers for Napster long before people were bitching about users stealing music. I have paid for more music than anyone I know, and if I choose to share my music with others for FREE, that is my damn business.

I met many creators of music on Napster who were thrilled that their music had been discovered by the masses. They encouraged music lovers to download their songs, free of charge.

I believe the internet should be as free as possible. All of these restraints and restrictions are evil. Not everyone has your money, Nick Babe, to buy music at will. The music companies are money grubbing assholes as well as many of the artists who rip us off with lousy CD's with one good selection amidst a bunch of junk which is totally overpriced. You can add the movie industry to the rip-off artist list.

It's a real kick to see you content owners bitching about people stealing music. The majority of the porn content isn't worth buying, let alone stealing.

Gonzo complex? Hardly. Just making an observation. I wouldn't expect anything else from some broke bitch than to steal music that the rest of us have to pay for. It's all good though. You live in your trail...world and I will live in mine. I would have made that comment about anyone that had posted what you posted...don't feel special.

By the way, free internet? What internet do you know of that came stocked with free songs? ;)

I have never seen so many incorrect and downright stupid statements in one place. First, let me start off by saying that I used to be big in the file sharing world. I worked for a long time helping with the open source Napster protocol project (http://opennap.sourceforge.net). I ran an opennap server that had thousands of users on it at any given time.

You sharing music with everyone is NOT "your damn business." It's theft, plain and simple. Fortunately the legal system agrees. People don't view digital media as property but it most certainly is.

Music, like porn costs money to produce therefore it can not and should not be free. It should never be up to the consumer to decide if they pay for it or not. Can I go to a car dealership, take a car but never pay for it because I don't feel it's "worth the money"? Absolutely not. If you want the car, you will pay for it. Music and porn should be the same way.

Everything takes money to produce and therefore takes money to purchase. Invest a little money, get returns on your investment. The greater the return, the better. That's the way business works. Record companies are free to set their own prices. If you don't feel the music is worth the money, you shouldn't get the music.

Almost all of the musicians that wanted their music on Napster were generally unknown artists who were trying to get their names out. Most big names were not in favor of having their new album that isn't released to the public for another two weeks available on Napster for free.

If you don't like the whole album, there's always iTunes for $.99 a song.

It annoys the shit out of me that people think not paying for music is okay. Particularly people here in this industry. Maybe we should be able to rip off content from any member's area we wish or steal any design we wish, eh?

Fuckers.

iPod plus iTunes. I love it. I listen all day long nad if a song sucks i just kill it. So nothing but great music all day everyday.

Thanks for the iPod Lightspeed! I got a second on order from your rewards now. You and they rock.

She doesn't quite get that concept as she isn't actually in this industry. All she does is suck Luke Ford's cock, suck up to Lensman and spout off about shit that she is delusional about. She claims to be this big purveyor of truth and justice. I guess there is justice in stolen music.

But it's nothing I wouldn't expect from some trailer park bag lady who bitches about her rent...

You know nothing about me. You want to fit in somewhere, so you go after easy targets. Hey......if Serge and his gang can't handle me, what chance do you think you have. I have been in porn since 1995. Take it or leave it, foolish man. You are a newbie who has nothing to offer but cheap comments.

How can it be *stealing* when I download music that I already have bought and have been using for years. For those who have no money to buy music, you will find the artists, who are worth a damn, will gladly give it to them. Those who are out for *money only* will rip you off just as easily as the producers and record companies.

Napster is dead. Those who claim to be *Napster* today are a fraud. How dare they use the name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty incredible that after all that has gone on in the news that you would actually say some of the things that you chose to in your post. Many judges and people in both the legal and music world and frankly THE WORLD would disagree with your comment that the music that you choose to share with the world for free is your damn business and no one elses.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, content producers!

Oh yes, and the courts always know what they are doing, right?

Give me a break. All of you have downloaded content, programs, music, and material that you *hacked* and didn't pay one cent.

Closet downloaders are the worst. You are wrong about the free music coming only from unknown artists. I run into many artists who have best seller CD's in the stores who don't care if you download their music on the internet. Also, there are artists from the past whose music has been stashed away from the public and you can't find it at Tower Records and Blockbuster. They are happy that fans have found their music on the internet and are sharing it with a new audience.

Wake up and stop bullshitting us, GFY music lovers.

You may run into 1,10,100 or more artists that say they don't mind their work being downloaded but what about the rest that do? These are probably the ones who have great deals and aren't effected in their pocket by this but frankly if people don't pay for what they download eventually everyone will suffer because it will hurt the companies that pay these people. Then you will see the same artists change his tune pun intented.

shuki, if I were a recording artist, I would find other ways to make money from my music than depending upon internet downloading paysites like the new Napster to make me rich.

If people want to pay, then do it. I pay for music, but I won't pay for music on sites which don't allow me to do as I please with it. Before the internet and mp3's and all the new formats, we all shared music with our friends, and nobody took us to court.

I have found it faster and easier to download songs from the internet so I can listen to them on my computer than to take the very same music I own and install it on my system. That is what my friends do, and I'd like to see the courts handle a defendant who is doing just that. I see no crime.

There isn't one poster here who hasn't been pissed off at artists and record companies for ripping them off in the past. Sure, we weren't forced to buy over-priced music, but just the same, I love seeing the big companies rushing off to court to protect their interests. Recording artists and the buying public have gotten the shaft from the recording industry for years and years. Payback time is here.

GatorB 02-19-2005 12:40 PM

I an currently finshing up my 30 free trial of Napster. Now I've never been one to BUY music. I've always been more of one to lsiten to it on the radio. I have very littel music that I own nor do i have anIpod or Mp3 player or anything like that no do i see owning on anytime soon. now I do like lsitening to music. Though today's msuic sucks ass. Thus Napster allows me for $10 a month to listen to msuic I want to hear whenever I want, unlike a radio station that plays crap 95% of the time. I'm also not required to BUY music I may only wish to listen to occasionally. So for me it's a good deal.

Those that said subcription music is dead. Why do we have PPV on cable and satelite, Why do video stores exist? I have very few games for my PS2, I rent most of them. WHY? Because I buy a game like Jak 3 for my 9 year old for Christmas and he solves it in 4 days. And I could have paid $6 instead of $40.

And if you own media center, you can even conect directly to napster and access the whole catalog form there. Really cool.

Quote:

If you want to spread bad news about Napster Inc., just tell Steve Jobs.

The Apple Computer Inc. chief executive sent an e-mail Tuesday morning to top record industry executives, alerting them to a security gap in Napster's music service--a rival to Apple's iTunes online store.

"Thought you should know if you haven't heard about this," Jobs wrote.

The e-mail directed the executives to a Web page detailing how to convert Napster's rental tunes into permanent downloads that can be burned onto CDs. The page urges people to sign up for a free trial of Napster and copy as much music as possible before canceling.

Napster CEO Chris Gorog sent the labels a retort Tuesday afternoon, arguing that such copying programs were neither new nor a problem only for Napster. Such programs are time-consuming because they "essentially work like a tape recorder," converting files as they play, Gorog said.

By contrast, he said, it is "trivial" to download a free program that circumvents Apple's anti-piracy software and unlocks "a large collection of iTunes music in seconds." He provided the Web address of a site that supplied such a program.

Neither Apple nor Napster would comment on the e-mail exchange.
