Who's going to buy "IT"

This thing looks cool, personal transporter. Damn thing is operated by your thoughts. I want one. It's on ABC right now, check it out. Just to clarify, it moves by the way you think. It can't tip over either. It's the most revolutionary invention since, "what"?

The moron proof skateboard? Wow, I have a boner. All that for only $3,ooo US?

I guess I'll throw away my lame ass bicycle. Which is lame ass now because it doesn't have a motherboard or a big silver handle...or a book deal.

Maybe not.

Hahahaha! I saw the commercial last night wanting me to "tune in" to the Today show or something. They were saying "It could be the next light bulb!" Implying that this is as important as a light bulb is insane! Imagine it really taking off, people would drop down their scooters to make them low riders, race them for pink slips, oh I can feel the excitement already! And a new one costs just as much as a decent used car, what a steal!

"The U.S. Postal Service, General Electric and National Parks Service will be the first buyers, purchasing 80-pound heavy-duty models for $8,000 apiece, according to Time. A 65-pound, $3,000 consumer model won't be available for at least a year." http://www.cbsnews.com/now/story/0,1...0-412,00.shtml

Is this the big revolutionary invention they have been teasing us with for months?
If we wanted to ride around in smaller, environmentally safer vehicles while we are in the city then we would be using electric golf carts to run our erands.

I've been reading about this for at least 6 months .. and I'm VERY UNIMPRESSED. What idiot did they get to say "more important then the internet"?

Disappointing.

I was very impressed.

17 miles on a single charge using $0.05 worth of electricity.

I don't know how many of you live in big cities but having a car is almost useless. This is a tremendous alternative. It doesn't replace a car or walking. It slots in between them.

Riding a bike 8 or 9 miles to work in a crowded city (especially if going to an office job)is not practical.

He's going to sell millions of them.

It looks like a scooter now, but in the future it may just be a thing you stand on that is the size of a pizza, or maybe they will make shoes with these things in the soles. And 20 years from now, the balancing and propulsion technologies may just be applied to a hovercraft device.

I am sure our special forces wouldnt' mind using these things. Parachute into the countryside, and instead of running 2 miles whiz this thing out of your backpack and be there in 5 minutes or less, w/o being tired!

The small, self balancing gyroscopes inside "IT" are probably the most important aspect of this invention.
I see this incarnation doing nothing more than adding another page to the Sharper Image catalog but if the balancing mechanism were utilized in jetpacks or the Hiller Flying Platform we could see flying soldiers in the world's military forces some day.

There are several aspects of it that are impressive, but it's not a PC and it's sure as fuck not a lightbulb.

Dean Kamen, the inventor, owns his own Island off of New Jersey, that has seceded from the US because they wouldn't let him install wind turbines to power the island. He flies one of his helicopters to work. He jokes about having his own currency.

He created one of the first portable dialysis machines, revolutionizing the lives of millions. He plans for these to be used in industrial settings as well as consumer transportation.

It might not be a tremendous revolution, but I would say it shouldn't be ignored. This guy is a pretty smart cat.
