Swap Harddrives
Im installing my new puter and need alot of files from my old harddisk.
Is it possible to just plugin my new old harddisk into my new puter, copy the files to c: take it out and put back my new secondary HD (which already is installed)? |

When I got my new computer earlier this year, I installed my old hard drive as a slave and then just drag and drop in windows explorer to the new hard drive.

What you mean by installed? You changed the bios and ran a new hardware search etc? Or you just plugged it in?
I have 2 hd's on my new puter now, master and slave, i need to take out the slave but i dont want to fuck anything up. |

the thing is that if you have AGPx4 feature...it can cause some problems...if it's the regular AGP then you have nothing to worry about |

I use Ghost myself.( Comes with Norton ).
If your going to use the same OS on both HD then make the new HD a slave and the old one master, Run Ghost then make the old HD slave and the new one master. Remove the slave and everything will be there Your have to run the CD that finds all your hardware after or Windows will find and ask for Windows disk. have no ideal if Ghost will work with XP. fast and easy to do with Ghost and computer boots right up. Yes it's paid program.
It came with my Norton SystemWorks 2002, really a kool tool saves a ton of time. I use to use it in the Dos days also(then Symantec bought them). Jim |

What kind of hard drive is it?
Most hard drives can be bought independantly from a computer and their websites will probably have some ez installation software to download that will do what you want. This one works for Maxtor and Quantum http://www.maxtor.com/products/Diamo...st/default.htm Although I have used it on other hard drives. If because of the AGP4 thing you can't install onto your new computer, add your new disk as a slave to your old computer, copy files and then put your new one back? RD |

products. I've been using them from dos 3.xx I've done at least 30 computers with Ghost and have had Zero, Zip, problems. There is another product out there or was I believe it's called DiskCopy or something. Black Night, you didn't tell the person what to use, just told them you wouldn't use a Norton product, if you know of another one TELL the person, after all that's what they ask for I believe, not your critique of Norton products. Well somebody gave me a very simple solution.
Disable the cd rom, plug the HD instead, copy files and put the cd rom back ![]() |
