![]() After I rebooted my main machine running on windows xp prof I got an error saying that explorer.exe can not be loaded because some shdocvw.dll file could not be found. the pc then restarts without even letting the welcome screen finish loading. so I searched on google already (using my notebook) and there is some page telling me I could download the missing file, place it in the needed folder and be able to run normal again...
so now my question... How do I even get the chance to copy this file back from a cd to the hd. will the windows recovery feature give me the chance to use DOS or some shit? If I can't get this pc to work normal again I am fucked as there is all my personal photos, letters and accounting shit on the drive. My work crap is secured on another machine. thanks |

F8 at startup (when you first see a splash screen) takes you to boot options. From there you should either be able to get to a prompt screen or safe mode.

you can also try to boot off your xp cd and goto repair at console and do a chkdsk /r or try to reload winxp over the top. I would try safemode and save some files first though

If you make it to safe mode try Restore before anything drastic.

If explorer.exe is missing what makes you think safe mode will load? Just put the
xp cd in and click repair when asked at install. |

I give you guys a good tip...
Do NOT install Panda antivirus and try to run an online update without having bought the program... those fuckers will make your machine go NUTS. Just a quick note... I always try pirated versions of a software before buying it... I don't buy crap I don't know... |
