Discuss what's fucking going on, and which programs are best and worst. One-time "program" announcements from "established" webmasters are allowed.

What to do when your ISP firewalls you?

I've been having some connection issues with bit torrent, so I decided to open up my machine and my router to all ports and give it a scan.... no go. Everything comes back "stealth" meaning that my ISP has set it up so that no one can detect a computer at my IP.

That's all well and good for 99% of the people as they don't need it to be set otherwise, and it'll help prevent virus's and stuff.

But for me... it's a bit of a pain in the ass... any advice???

that's fucked up.

i own a PC support company and SBC (SBC Yahoo DSL), recently started
closing port 21 (smtp mail out). they claim this is done to combat spam.

so we get all these calls from businesses who have their own domains and
can't send mail anymore but can receive it.

of course, sbc did have a fix, send mail through smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
which in my opinion is a major privacy issue because they can (easier than
before) look through eveyone's e-mail.

pieces of shit.

Get a new ISP, have a contract then do NAT. There is no other way to get around with anything if the problem is configured by the root itself. If you get around it, it's not going to be steady.

Exploits come in multiple pieces of timelines and 90% of which are accidents.

Yes, so I'm discovering. Using dslreports, I've found out how to "unlock" my modem and mess around with it's settings... forward some ports, turn off the firewall... and so on.

But still, when I do a port scan, I get "stealth" responses... which means it's at their switch, not here.

I'm screwed
