Really depends how and why its died.

Best thing way to run external drives is to run two side by side and then when you have a problem or failure you still have one which is ok. Externals are now so very big and very cheap its the best way.
    See sig...

I would bring it to a comp shop and have them extract the data otherwise its what the previous guy said, it depends how it died.

            That's what I ll do
            Don't know how it died.
I left it here uploading content from it via ftp.
When I checked back today it was just resting here like it was unplugged.
It had transferred half of the ftp queue and just plain died

I ll take it to the store later today and see what they can do ...

Imagine working at compusa, and one day some dude brings in his broken hard drive with 250 gigs of porn on it for you to extract

If the Bios still sees the drives, then it is more likely, it is more likely corrupted thann " fried ". Like it will say: " This drive is not formatted, Do you want to format it now" ....

If so, use Restorer2000 at http://www.restorer2000.com/

                    Works miracles ....

If not detected, then bring it to a specialist.

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

Its always good to backup the important data so that we can recover it incase if there is any problems... at this time i would only suggest u to consult a specialist
