I know Apple TV does that but only for videos in your itunes library and I hate itunes. I want something that can play anything, avi, mkv, you name it (preferably even full HD)
is there a device similar to apple tv that does this? |

Huh,ordinary video player should do that, there is function in basic players like winamp where on monitor screen shows your desktop and tv only show running videos, and that video can be anything from internet stream or loaded video from hard drive. And now every modern tv can be connect to pc with several ways,hdmi,vga,s-video,etc..

Why not connect your PC directly to your TV? I dont get it.
Maybe this will work for you: http://tinyurl.com/2ucd64x

Pickup a pinnacle showcenter 1000/200 for almost nothing, 50 bucks or so, and install "swisscenter". Nothing special but works great!

I have both a WD TV and a PS3, WD TV isn't wireless, although it's great quick and easy to use no hassle at all, hdmi full hd bla bla bla, but I like the convenience of wireless rather the using a usb drive

Get a Roku Player - read the amazon reviews, google other reviews on the web - visit their website.
It's the best solution right now.

You are looking for the Boxee.
It'll play anything you throw at it. A review from anandtech. http://www.anandtech.com/show/4029/t...e-box-review/1 I played around with one in my friend's house and it rocks. Cool thing is bugs and feature requests are added and you can download them and add them to the box. |

I bought a Dell Zino HD mini PC for my Home Theatre setup and it's the best little PC I've ever purchased.
Cost a little more than $200, runs full 1080p HD with no problems, streams HD TV via Hulu with no lagging. Could probably use a RAM upgrade, but doesn't need it. For about $100 more than those gimp'd boxes that do nothing more than stream...I've got a full on HTPC that will do pretty much anything I ask of it. ![]() |

If you're serious and think this looks nice, take the time to check into the little Dell I mentioned. It really costs about $100 more and lets you do all the Roku can do and much much more.
