Where does the accent and manorisms come from?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not gay bashing or anything, this is just an honest question. I mean, I know you weren't born with the accent/lisp thing... and didn't act like a 50's prima donna while a child... so where did it come from?

Did you see some other guys doing it and thought you should be the same? Or it just happened one day all on it's own?

I have the same question for "valley girls" with the whole "gag me with a spoon" thing. That accent is not native to any country, so where did it come from?

It's just something that I've always wondered.

ah, but I know the answer to that is the same with the "oh snap" and "game on" thing... what ever is "cool" for the times is what you have to add to your daily vocabulary. It's why everyone was a "home boy" in the early 90's and now is a "brotha"

The question actually came up from a gay guy at my gf's work... we were talking about it and he hates "flaming" gays because he feels it's degrading. I don't know about that, but we got to talking about "where does it come from?"

So I ask it here... how does a child who's speaking and acting as an average child does whether gay or not end up behaving as a "flaming" gay does. What's the reason for the transition?
