If you were making 2k a month in adult internet and..

you had a regular job making $2,400.00 a month but, you knew you would make 4k per month if you allocated your regular job hours to adult internet.....would you quit your regular job?

8hrs a day @ job and then time spent on website for $4400

Or a total of 8hrs a day with no boss for $4000+

Some other factors to consider would be: does your regular job have health insurance, retirement, stock options? What about paid vacations and holidays?

All of those things can add up to quite a bit if you're self employed.

Right but W.A.H will give you more time to grow within the same time.

You work 8hrs a day at your job no matter how hard you work you get 2400 at the end of the month
You work 8hrs a day at home and if you put in a ton of effor you can make more than 4k.

no, i honestly wont go fulltime into adult until i bring in about 10k a month, profit. too many changes in this business to be secure with only 5k a month.

at 5k a month that would mean i probably would have to work for someone.

screw that.

thats why i am working in a few different fields on purpose. while one succeeds i dont have to worry about the other two failing. money is money, so long as i'm making it, i'm happy

Self-Employment is definetly difficult some times but luckily you've built up enough to start off with so it should be a no-brainer. Good luck.

An extra $1600 a month is great, but for most people, they'd rather job security I would think. Being self-employed (especially if its going to be your first time) is not easy and the odds of making it are against you since most businesses fail within a year.

If it were my choice, I would do it, for sure. But I think there's a lot of factors to consider other than simple dollars and cents.

you cant know for a fact that you will make what you think you will. Lots of hearts have been broken when people thought something was guaranteed only to find it did not happen.

job security is a thing of the past. the last generation who had real job security was the baby boomers. but it all depends on if you have ppl who depend on your income to live, ie children.

I'll give you the real...
this self employment..
this hustle...

I don't know if I'll ever give it up 100%...
because of the ability to make money doing things that aren't physically demanding and heavily time consuming....

but on the flip side of it..
I'm a full time student....

I'm looking forward to making an extra $40,000 when I graduate and hit the job market..

because I know I can make $40,000 on my own.....

Not a whole lot of money..
won't make me rich....

But life isn't all about being RICH..
Life is about being able to take care of yourself, responsibilities and family...

a "real" job has some level of job security, benefits (medical, dental, paid vacation, 401 k)

I want a real job..
and I want to hustle in something else

ALWAYS....
Because I can always do this, I can't ALWAYS get a job....

job security doesnt exist

if you work for someone else , what makes you think that will be ALWAYS ? ? nothing is forever , ENRON is bankrupt too

people working at ENRON pry thought they had a job for life , guess what , they didn't ,

working for someone else is like renting a house , I prefer buying one and without mortgage

Izz couldn't have said it better. I ALWAYS run three different things at once. If one dries up I (and my family) are still secure in the others.

Ok here's my take...and this is coming from someone who has been fulltime in this biz for 3+ years, and who faced an almost identical decision 3+ years ago.

The company I worked for for 5 years before I got into this business filed bankruptcy six months after I quit.
It was a convenience store chain with 500+ stores....and it wasn't a "reorganization" filing either...ALL of the locations were closed and nobody got their final paychecks until 2 months later.

Things were really tough on all of my former colleagues because even the ones with the great resumes and tons of experience were facing a tight job market. You had a limited number of openings for work in the same field and ALL of the former employees of the bankrupt chain applying for the same jobs.

So much for the "job security" that I gave up to work for myself....lol

The same thing could happen to you in your current job....I don't care who you work for.
Look what happened to Enron, or all of the dot com's a few years back. There isn't always writing on the wall to warn you of impending doom, and there is no job security anywhere.

The only security you have is your savings.

Do you have enough cash saved to make your minimum expenses for a few months if sales are slow?
Also, how much of your revenue comes from recurring programs or your own paysites versus per signup programs? (This alone should be a big part of your decision...a strong base of recurring revenue will help get you through the months when sales are slow.....and no matter how good you are at this some months will be worse than average)

How many different traffic sources and revenue sources do you have? A good rule of thumb is to not rely on any one traffic source or sponsor for more than 25% of your income. (This is a rule that I preach but don't practice.....and unfortunately I would be up shit's creek tomorrow if a certain affiliate program or processor stopped paying/went under)

How much discipline do you have to work hard when nobody but you will know whether or not you did anything today?

If you have a spouse/significant other/children living with you do they understand what you're going to do and are they willing to sacrifice a lot of the "little things" they now enjoy for as long as a year?

When I first started full time I was barely making more at this than I was at my day job.
I was barely able to pay my bills for the first 6 months....and I didn't have alot of bills (drove an old car, no credit card debt or student loans etc)
After about six months my revenue started exceeding my expenses by a good bit, but then I had to start paying taxes on all the money I'd made in the previous 6 months.
It took a lot longer than I expected to get where I wanted to be....but I still lived a simple lifestyle and re-invested every dollar I didn't need for living expenses back into my business.

Last year I made more than 5 times what I made at my previous job and I don't really have to work that much. And this year I'll double what I made last year.

Anyways...before I write a book of Homeric proportions I'll wrap up by saying there's alot of sacrifice involved, and it could all be for nothing.
You could do this full time for 6 months, go broke, and be begging for your old job back and ruin your credit in the process. (This IS a realistic possibility, don't think that you're so good it can't happen, alot of business men smarter than all of us have gone bankrupt)

If that's a chance you're willing to take then go for it.

well, you will lose your benefits like health insurance and such if you quit...provided your job has that.

do you enjoy your job? thats what really matters I guess

screw that.

thats why i am working in a few different fields on purpose. while one succeeds i dont have to worry about the other two failing. money is money, so long as i'm making it, i'm happy
That's the same position I'm in right now.. I'm making a decant income from adult and I could just about live off it alone. However you never know what's up with adult. One month could be record sales and the next could be your worst month of the year.

I also think $10k a month is the magic number, that's my target number for the end of the year. I may get there sooner but it's my year end goal reguardless.

you had a regular job making $2,400.00 a month but, you knew you would make 4k per month if you allocated your regular job hours to adult internet.....would you quit your regular job?
I think your best is to do like I'm trying to do, which is to keep doing your other stuff and reinvest your extra money. I'm looking at doing the outsourcing deal, which will allow me to farm out more of my grunt work that I don't have time to do, so I can get some of my other projects going.

If you quit you are only making $2k with wouldn't give you much extra money to expand. However with the $4k you could have some extra to reinvest.. get yourself and outsouced guy and have him build you free sites, AVS sites or galleries all day and submit them.

you only ask that question beceause your not sure you gonna make 4k when you quit your day job. Advice : Make more hours and make 4k with your site. Then quit your job.

That's pretty much what I did... I worked fulltime at an internet company for 3 years, towards the end started to get into both contract programming and affiliate marketing, and although it supplemented my income very nicely, I wanted the freedom of self employment...

Was a rocky road to start but no regrets
