Fame could mean notoriety and/or infamy. Imagine being Newton. He's famous to this day for his accomplishments in physics although I don't think he was a rich man. He changed the course of history and helped humankind advance. Most of the the rich men that lived when he was alive are not known today.

Timothy McVeigh will be known for decades to come. He will be infamous in the textbooks because of what he did. We can argue he was crazy, misguided, or that he stood up for his beliefs. Whatever we believe about him, he will be talked about and remain 'famous'.

No, I don't choose fame, I want BOTH. Ideally I would have both. But if I was born a rich heiress and partied a lot and had wild antics I'm sure I could "make" myself famous just by being wealthy. Look at society people like Amanda Hearst (family owns Hearst publishing) and Casey something (forgot her last name) heiress to the Johnson and Johnson co, and the daughters of Danielle Steel, they are famous simply by coming from well-known extremely extremely wealthy families worth millions or even billions? People like to write about them in society columns in Vogue and in Pageseix just because they are wealthy.

So if I had to chose I would chose money because that could lead to fame.
But preferably it would have to be obscenely wealthy, not just a "little" bit wealthy, but immensely wealthy like being the descendant of a Rockefeller or something like that.
