URGENT Action Alert - National ID Cards
House to vote on HR 418 on Wednesday Feb 9th!
HR 418 would take the next step toward establishing a national identification card, controlled by the Feds. This is the undone part of the Intelligence Consolidation Bill we fought just a couple of months ago, sponsored by Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner's (R-WI). Here's how the American Policy Center described this dangerous bill: * H.R. 418 would require the linking of all state driver's license databases -- thereby creating one massive database harnessing the private details of every U.S. citizen. It also would force all states to subscribe to the "Driver's License Agreement," which would make the contents of this database available to bureaucrats in Canada and Mexico. * H.R. 418 would require all state driver's licenses to have a common machine-readable technology, including a digital photo of the card holder. * The database may grow to contain far more than simply information relevant to driving. H.R. 418 gives the Secretary of Homeland Security the unprecedented power to dictate what data states collect for license holders. This could include virtually anything, including fingerprints and/or eye retina scans known as "eye-prints." Please go to www.DownsizeDC.org and click on the link to the top campaign on the page titled, "House to Vote on National ID Card." Send your Representative a message to vote NO on HR 418. Please act now. Time is short.

NCIC pretty effectively links IDs as it is, I don't know that this is going to make it worse or better. Especially given the US governments ability to create systems that just dont fucking work ;)

From my understanding several U.S. states, including Colorado and California (folks in those states feel free to chime in here), require licensed drivers to be fingerprinted.
Americans collectively, have and continue to, give up many of their natural human rights ... and this trend is likely to continue indefinitely. Driver licenses already are a defacto national ID card - many states share such data with other states, some of which share such data directly with the fed govt ... And those states that don't directly share such data with other states often lease/rent/sell drivers license data to marketing companies, etc ... that's among the ways the U.S. federal govt gathers data they can't directly get themselves; 3rd parties - be it private companies, other countries, eavesdropping/backdoors, etc. So much for "it will never happen" ... for it already has basically happened ... the U.S. govt is now basically just putting on the final touches ... While on this subject ... foreigners from many other countries are required to be fingerprinted - first it was just folks from a few selet countries, than that was expanded to more, and now there are some serious proposals to require Americans to be fingerprinted too, if they want to travel out of the country ... The ultimately goal of all of this is total control the population - already one sees this with Generation-Y (people under ~24) is collectively very used to *and accepting of* authority; most have attended schools that operate more like prisons - "lockdown" has become common in many U.S. schools, but I digress. In a nutshell, national ID is basically already here, and will continue to be further expanded - most all Americans (ie. those who want to drive legally) will have to submit even more personal biometric data (fingerprints, etc) to the government - first it was name, address, etc, then later on it was their stats (height, etc), then their face, then their fingerprint (some states), and eventually who knows - DNA maybe? Lastly, what is one to do - other than being outraged and discussing such matters with friends, etc, the only real solution, as most often been the case throughout history, is to have money and more importantly have the right connections - it all comes down to know those in power ... folks with power ("kings", and those that are affiliated with them, even in todays world can get away with far more than most of the population ("peasants"); Kings and Peasants is still a reality even today Ron p.s. my reply really rambled on ... sorry, I do that sometimes LOL!

I think it's called the State Driver's License Compact, and 47 states are a part of it - meaning my ticket last year in Cali shows up on my AZ driver's license. Seems to me this idea is nothing new.
When the police run your DL they get so much more than just the tickets you've got on your record - they track every contact with the police you've recently have, and jail time - even if you have current insurance on your car. Big Brother is already here.

So what.. Im not a criminal and I don't intend on being one. Im not one of those self-righteous people that thinks big brother is constantly looking over my shoulder. If you really think you are important enough for someone to give two shits about you and your life then your probably doing something you should be.
This is the information age. If somebody wants info on you they don't need an ID card to get it. -Tony |

Many Americans are so brainwashed that they will soon be begging for more government oversight of their lives.
The best right wing logic is talk radio logic that says "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to be afraid of" no matter what the government does. If the government said they were going to impose 8pm curfews for all citizens to help fight terrorism, most Republicans would cheer. Freedom is too scary for most right wingers. They want government control of their lives to protect them from themselves. Sheep. ![]() |

i can't get a drivers license in georgia because of an unpaid seat belt ticket in california....haven't been able to get it for 3 years now cause california LOST the ticket in the system, so my problem doesn't exist in their eyes
i will probably never be able to get a drivers license again because of their national database connecting me here in georgia with something in california....everything is paid off, they just happen to have lost every bit of info that would reset my license so...now....tell me how there isn't already a national id system in place |

while i am 110% against "big brother" and would be more than happy to point them at something else to watch, i don't think this particular bill is of that much concern...

When I first moved up here to Daytona Beach I didn't do any sort of address forwarding with the post office.. I contacted anyone that sends me anything and directly updated the info with them. Some how those sneeky fucking IRS mofo's managed to find my ass to send me $3.5k check in the mail. I still don't know how those fuckers found me but I'm kinda glad they did.. It's like a love hate thing...

Pure genius coming from a guy with an ACLU link in his sig. Look, ACLU was good back in the 60's when blacks were truly oppressed...Now all they've been reduced to, is forcing companies to hire lower-skilled-minority workers, and suing any city that has any type of Christian symbols. Yea that's really free speech guy! Have fun in your little theoretical-pussified-bullshit-world, while the rest of us move on with our lives in this country...Keep crying and pouting, I ASSURE you no one fucking cares, except the loons in southern Cali and Canada on this board! Oh yea, Bush won, why am I arguing with this tool? Please choke on my cock |
