Adobe Premiere or Cinestream?

I want to start editing some of my MiniDV tapes. This is a new area for me and I am not sure which of these programs will best suit my needs. I already own them but have not learned either. Which do you suggest I use for web ready videos?

I know a guy that uses Premier and loves it... swears by it... would trade his wife to keep it if he had to make a choice.... but I have no practical experience with either one.. so that's the best I can offer.

I run a mac and for most little things I use iMovie. We just bought a copy of and it is awsome!!! Premiere has far more advanced features...
My vote is for Premiere...

for editing, final cut pro is all we use now - before that, premiere. but fcp is *much* nicer imo.

Before porn made me too lazy to get out of bed I worked on the Premiere OEM team at Adobe... (Check the credits I'm in there.)

Premiere is like Photoshop a very powerful app. If you really want to cut some tape and do gee whiz video editing shit go for it.

If you just want to slap some vidja together with hard cuts and some overlayed graphics there is probably something out there that will work just as well.

Either way... I usually lay low with the video editing/compressing skillz but feel free to contact me if you ever need help.

Great info here people, thanks for the input. I wonder if anybody has even used Cinestream.

I haven't used Cinestream yet but Premiere gets my vote among the rest out there.

OK then. I have tried Premiere and somehow I managed to get a good 30 second clip in a test run. The file size was only 119mb. Maybe it is me but I think that is a little too big. What did I do wrong? Any ideas where I can get a good crash course on video for this program?

This is how I figured it out. Save a few movie clips from somewhere that you like the quality and size of. Then open it in premiere and see what it's properties are. Then just use the same settings on your files. I can't remember the settings I was using but you can get a good quality mpeg clip of 10-12 seconds in length down to around 250-300kb so you should be able to get your 30 second clip down to under 1mb. Hope that helps you.
