:stoned Design : Gift or Skill

I'd like to know if you think design is something that is in you...your way of seeing thing ...something that someone has and another don't (gifted)...or is it something that anybody has but need to be developed (with studies for exemple) ??

discuss

it is both.

i always had a natural artistic talent, even as a young'n. but to make anything impressive, or to be the best you can be, it takes experience and practice.

everyone can improve on their skills if they keep practicing, but what seperates a good designer from a great designer is ultimately, talent.

totally agree with you...thats why someone with talent can "break" design rules and it can still be awesome... also there's colors... i bet i can mix any colors (2 or 3 (+1 of my choice))..and still be able to do something very attractive...

as an online designer of over 8 years now I believe it is a bit of both, but in my case I believe it's more a gift, either that or I just have higher standards than most I dunno

You have to have an eye for what looks good. A guy proficient in photoshop can spend 8 hours coming up with something, but if he doesn't have "the eye" it's gonna look like shit no matter how many hours he put into it.

Everyone can have skills to make a decent design by just practicing it...but not everybody can make a very unique concept of design without a gift...
