We have lots of servers on other locations dude ... the way they (RCN) act is very new to us.

nope im a surfer just passing by

I hosted with RCN since 2003 and I have NEVER had a problem with them as you're stating that they were rude. I disagree that they were being rude, and I do think they were trying to be as professional as you allowed them to be, according to your ICQ message.

I WILL say this though...a few days ago I decided to move my sites to another company BECAUSE last week they decided to change my plan as well, and charge me a lot of extra fees, which they just all of a sudden tacked on. Now, once they found out I was moving...they called me last night and said they had removed the fees and had some problems with updating their stuff...so the plans got screwed up. If I had not paid 200.00 to move my sites already, I would have stayed with them, despite someones screw up. They've always been very nice to me on ICQ and pretty much took care of any issues I had right away. So all in all in 2 years I've had only one issue with them...and because of the way it was handled...I decided to move my sites. I felt it was unprofessional what they did, without warning me...but I also understand it was a mistake, but what's done is done.

I got on icq with their sales rep and said about my budget and got offered a server on that budget. Everything seemed so fine, knowing they offer fully managed

support on all of their hosting plans.

My content and TGP sites got transferred from the old hosting and I changed NS info for the domain and cancelled the old hosting.

There we go. I had icq support while moving, then after I switched it disappeared. My first question was - what's going on? I'm even not fully configured on my

server. The reply was like: you're not a managed customer, if you want support then go and purchase support package and will only be supported via email in a

"timely" manner. That was a news for me.

So I received a unmanaged server for pretty high price for unmanaged servers. And recently been suggested by zagi@RCN to move to another good host.

My current problem is that 15 hours ago I requested a password change to my server via email and 12 hours ago it has been completed (it took 3 hours to change a

pass - talking about support in a timely manner), and the problem is that I never received that NEW password. So in the past 12 hours I've been trying to contact via

email/icq with their support, but it appears I'm on a complete ignore.

They don't reply on icq and even via email. I can't access my server.

I have asked a guy who's customer with them to send a message to them, and they got back to him, so I confirmed I'm on a total ignore now.

Now ask me why do I feel so bad.

If you don't know me, perhaps you heard about sites I run like: sunporno.com, two-lips.com, twilightsex.com and a number of others.

Maybe it's time we go isprime ...

(Damn isn't that a nice slogan)

sonofsam 02-05-2005 03:00 AM

couple of weeks ago they added 6.50 to my account for going over my 10 meg limit in each email account for each of my 10 domains.....

when i looked.. i had like 10 kilobites worth of emails in each....

i messaged them and they said "oh sorry.. was some kind of error... and were like... we'll take it off of next months bill" ... obviously i was going to stick with them for longer then 1 month... but when you fuck up like that.. you refund it right away.... no matter what.. its like going into a pizza place... ordering food.. with 2 slices missing... and they are like... oh.... come back next time u buy a pizza.. we'll throw in the extra slices...

they also disabled my option to add ftp users to my account... and that caused a lot of headache because it delayed my web developement on one of my projects...

Looks a bit funny, RCN took him on then changed the terms of his support on the grounds that he actually used support.

If they want to change the deal they should not only refund him but compensate him for the inconvenience they have caused him.

What a joke that is
Check out phatservers, honestly the support is first class.

basschick 02-05-2005 05:24 AM

i know lots of places that offer support for $400 with 5mbps.

anyway, ya can't change the terms after the deal is in effect. and if you DO change the terms, ya need to lower the price.

This is bullsh*t and they now it ...

dude, the package you selected is for people who can manage/admin their own shit! therefore they dont need support! thats why its cheaper than a managed dedicated,

admit it, you fucked up!

I know where RCN is coming from...some clients are a real pain in the ass (I bet you were very good at pestering them on icq :1orglaugh) but if you made a deal you need to stick to it. Changing the terms afterwards is LOW.

Also like Trade_Monkey said, first you need a lot of support after moving until everything is working, then you shouldn't be needing any unless the host fucks up.
