So I hear LOUD banging on my door...

So i'm just sitting here working when I hear someone start banging on my front door really hard. Sounded like the police.

I get up and open the door to find my neighbor on the ground crying. Then I see that she is holding on to her 2 year old son, and he is shaking really bad - he was having a seizure.

I call 911 for the 2nd time in my young life, and they helped me stop the seizure rather quickly while the ambulance was enroute.
The operator was really amazing, he was unbelievably calm and focused and told me exactly what to do immediatly. 5 cold towels later, the seizure stopped and the paramedics arrived.

The whole thing lasted maybe 7 min.
I was really suprised how fast the ambulance arrived as the nearest hospital is about 15 min away and there was rush hour traffic. I guess there is a dispatch station nearby.

What is really weird is how it worked out.
I'm in an apartment building and everyone except for me and an old fellow upstairs, was gone at work. I was waiting on a buddy of mine to EP me some cash and I was going to go out. He went idle and didn't get a chance to EP me, so I just stayed in.
If he would have EP'd me I wouldn't have been here to help, and the old guy upstairs sure couldn't do anything. It could have been a lot worse.

What's also weird is that about 5 min. before everything happened I decided, for one reason or another, to hide my brother's bong and pipes and all, which were in clear view of the doorway.
2 cops showed up with the ambulance, and since the neighbor and I live right across the hall from eachother the cops looked in my apartment as well.
That could have been a bitch to explain.

In conclusion, it's weird how life works out and you never know what's coming next. I just thank god I was here to help.

FYI you can stop, or help, a situation like this (a small child seizuring) by wrapping their body in a cold towel and the top of the head as well. You have to change the towels every 30 sec or so as the remaining body heat will warm the towel and actually worsen the situation.

yup, always support & provide cushion to their head, move things out of the way, and dont try to restrict their movements because that can cause injury to their bones, etc. I used to take care of a little girl who had seizures all the time and at my volunteer job (working with developmentally disabled & mentally retarded) about 30% of the population I work with have seizures. There are several types, some much more severe & others more mild, the more you know the more you can do to help someone. Good job! :

Luckily this one was quite mild. After this it makes me wish I paid more attention in health classes and all, you never know when you might need to put it to use.
