Questions about NATS webmaster referral

I haven't looked into this, so I just thought I'd ask.

When referring webmasters to a NATS program, does their referral link track by cookies or not?

Like if someone went to the site, closed it, and came back later by typein (not bookmark) to signup, would I still get credit for the referral?

It tracks by cookies.. If the code is still there or not depends on the length of the cookie.. I think default in NATS is 1 day..

So, after a day, if the "ref=#" or whatever is not on the url, I wouldn't get credit anymore?

On the signup form, is this the form variable that decides if you get credit or not?

<INPUT TYPE=HIDDEN NAME="ref" VALUE="">

I'm not qualified to say yes or no on that one.. You'd have to ask one of the NATS guys, I just use the program..

It depends on what the NATS program uses for webmaster referral. Those that use ?ref=XYZ will not be cookie tracked. Those that use a normal /track/ url will work just like all other systems and store a cookie for by default 10 days.

The ref variable in the form does not HAVE to be filled for you to get credit in case they use /track/.

So in the case where ?ref=xyz is used, if the person leaves and comes back later, they are not tracked anymore?

Yes, that is correct, right now they would not be.

Heads up on that too.....If I am checking out an affiliates account, and happen to go to their link to make sure everything is cool, and an hour later do a test signup from that page, it give the affiliate the sale....which is hard to explain that it was a test sign up to some, most are cool.
