If a free one can take care of this yes... I'd pay though if I need to. Enough is enough! I haven't got one single fricking thing done today because of this
This may sound strange, but I got more junk removed from my computer by Microsoft and AOL anti=spyware than any of the others. It doesn't hurt to use the free ones like Adaware and Spybot, but they are lacking. If you have the time, use all of them, including trendmicro.com and Spy Sweeper which will give you a free 30 day trial.
That was the last program I had to use to get clean-- I eventually used several programs, but this is the one that did the best. They are the makers of CWshredder
Free 30 day trial, but after a few days they give you a half off ad. I imagine I'll buy it when the trial lapses.
Ask 12Clicks. Opps, my mistake, I though you were asking for the best adware installer. (Note: This thread and the complaint it is addressing is the result of the use of wonderful "ad supported software" available directly from your friends 12Clicks and Standard Internet.).
Anyhow, the application that most IT departments depend on is Giant Software's product, which was recently purchased by Microsoft, and is now available as a free beta at: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx
A client's PC was just tested today and the consultant found 16+ adware/spyware programs on the box. All from Kazaa ... whatever you do, do NOT install that beast on any machine you care about.
Before you run any of those boot in safe mode. run > msconfig click BOOT.INI choose safe boot. Boot and then run them. That way the spyware can't load into your memory and chances are it won't get removed with the spy remover if it's in your memory or already running.
It's the only way I got rid of some of the shit I had.
Forgot to add while you're in msconfig look under startup and you can see what runs when you boot. You can eliminate alot problems from there on your own.
Ad-aware SE Personal, Microsoft AntiSpyware, Spysubtract, and Spybot search and destroy. Actually use all of them every couple of days. Works great for me.
Best one I've tried was the Windows XP Intallation CD.
It can let you format your hard drive and install the new version of windows, supposedly spyware free.
I had the same shit problem last week. Got damn, took me 10 hours to bring it back to live!
Just kidding RRRED. Try Ad-Aware and Spybot. Both of them is better.
i am about to do that on a laptop that has something that just won't go away. It is the only thing that has ever gotten through on my system like that. It is actually the reason I started using firefox but it still launches an IE window when I don't have IE running. A few programs pick it up but none can remove it.
