Some people get into relationships for a "it's good now" reasoning, and don't really care about being loyal or trying to work through things; they're happy if they are provided a shelter and food (this goes both ways) but if there's turmoil they might just not care and leave, and want half, because they could get half.
A pre-nup really depends on the people and their relationship. I only see myself getting married to a certain kind of person, though if a different kind of person comes into the picture, I may really not know what their motives are, might not be a good idea to get married with them, but if it is on the table, then I'd definitely want a prenup.. it'd be wonderful not to need one of course.. thats why smart men NEVER get married
or just with a prenop , what is mine stays mine , what is hers stays hers if I pay for the house, it is my god damn house, if we each paid half , cool we each get half simple |
yes it does. that is why you do not get married. never let then enemy into the place you live.

I don't believe in marriage. Instead, every 5 years I find a woman that I can't stand, and I buy her a house.
|
May not be relevant to most of you but in the UK even if your not married and own the home - if your woman has kids and its the family home then she can be given the house until on of the following happens (under the Childrens Act)
She cohabits with another partner for 6 months or more She gets married The kids reach 18 years old. You could still be liable for the mortgage in some cases also. - if you are married you are basically fucked.... prenupts are not legally binding contracts and the court WILL have the ultimate power of who gets what..... it makes no odds why you split - she could of gangbanged the local football team... it doesn't matter. And if you have kids then of course she will get your house, your pension, the car - and you will pay child support. . |
hurry and do a 50/50 :D get a dollar bill and split into a half.
it's fair and peaceful. |
hmm I married my wife and she was/is making 500k per year. No prenup, do I get half? :1orglaugh

Actually made me think of this case of a UK footballer who had to pay his ex-wife a large percentage of his future earnings

here in Czech rep it means 50% of all is fucked up
any troubles man? |
What a bunch of poor, lonely souls you all must be :helpme

I thought assets aquired prior to marriage don't get split in half... so if you have the house paid off before marriage, she willl have hard time getting any of it...
If however you put 10% down, and then marry and divorce her, 10% will be yours, rest will be split in half... but like everyone said, consult a lawyer in your area... |
DarkJedi, if you think marriage isn't already a legal contract binding finances, you're naive. What's romantic about binding finances and legal mumbo jumbo? Why is that neccessary? A prenup is simply figuring out how the contract will work for YOU.
Everyone signs a contract. You may as well make it custom to your liking. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking it's anything else. |
She gets 50% of everything & your balls... you get what's left.

I'd say stick to your woman and don't worry about money :thumbsup |
It depends on your arrangement.
|
well, there's lots of variables here, nothing is cut and dried.
1. depends on the state 2. depends whether the divorce is contested, or uncontested 3. depends on spouse share of equity within the house, i.e. who owned it first, what is the split of time of ownership, who put most money into it, etc. 4. depends on how good your attorney, (if contested divorce) 5. depends on the what the judge decides 6. depends on prior agreements (prenups, trusts, etc) etc, etc. conclusion, the wise person with equity gets asset protection in place before marriage, he thinks with the big head first, because in life shit does happen. the the honorable person is fair in the settlement to his wife, especially is she bore him children. |

this is generally true in MOST states. |
It depends on the state
