I have 5 sites linking to each other, they are all on their own seperate domain, but they are all on the same IP on my dedicated server. Will Google penalize you if you have sites linking to each other on same IP?

Yeah, I need a clarification on this. Maybe some of the SE guru's out here can shed some light on this.Originally posted by cooloneI am not sure, but I have a few domains on the same host same IP and ended up losing my google PR with all of them but one.
when I moved one domain to its own IP it ended up getting some of its PR back.
So I do not know what to think.
I will try a couple of more and see if it helps.Comment

as far as same IP, I am talking about having my domains like this:
Domain 1: 24.11.25.12
Domain 2: 24.11.25.12
Domain 3: 24.11.25.12
Now, If I have them like this, is that still considered "same ip" by google?
Domain 1: 24.11.25.12
Domain 2: 24.11.25.13
Domain 3: 24.11.25.14Comment

What is your definition of that? How many domains linked to each other on the same IP?Originally posted by QualityMpegsnope, unless it's massively excessive
I could have sworn someone said on here before that even a few domains linked to each other on the same IP could be penalized.Comment

Spreading them out across and ip range is the best case scenario. I've even gone as far as hosting different sites at different hosts for max effectiveness. Def get them their own IP's, and ask your host to assign them across a class if possible.Comment

The Class C issue is a common one. While noone really knows how G operates, from my experience, multiple (reasonably) interlinked sites on the same IP (diff domains) did not get penalized in the past.
However, without outside links pointing to your cluster, you should not expect much popularity.
It is important to have legitimate quality links to your sites from others (outside your realm) - otherwise, you're just a small group of 'islands'.
In the past, who points to you generally did nothing or something when it came to boosting your ranks.
Now, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that a 'bad link' TO you can actually hurt your site's SERPs.
Keep an eye out on who is linking to you.

As I see it,
there is no penalty for crosslinking your domains on the same IP or same "C" Block.
However, if the domains are all chasing the same keywords or niche, i.e.you have 5 ebony sites on the same "C" block and interlink them, then google will discount 4 of them. They don't want their serps to be dominated by one guy.
Also as has been mentioned you need independent links coming from outside this nest of sites otherwise your crosslinking will be discounted.
Now don't go and get the same links for the same sites. That is don't go and pay mrizzz $50 to link all his nest to your nest.get different inbound links for each site and then you can feel fearless about crosslinking between your own.
So basically you have to make google think that these sites are independent of each other and can stand on their own, that their content is different and they are getting links from different sources.Comment

I think that is about right - tho who knows the inner workings of Google? :-)Originally posted by swamiAs I see it,

The only clean, or an attempted clean, scenario for the 5 ebony sites is have each on to totally different Class C/network. For futureproofing, it is also worth having the domains "owned" by different corps - it's too easy to check a whois :-)
With the above scenario, the next exercise is getting qualified inbound linkage to these five domains - a load of irrelevant PR1 and 2 sites may help a little, but it needs more than that.
It is claimed Google does not penalize domains on one IP - while this may be true, I would not be willing to spend time building inbound linkage on this. It is preferable that each domain have it's own IP as a basic fundamental.XXX TLD's - Another mosquito to swat.Comment
