Well, when they first started they used leather belts, then they went to chains. You probably never noticed because they are usually enclosed under the primary cover.

and even these are usually enclosed by some fancy covering, not always though! You have to be a real experienced rider to ride one of those. I went to the show to kick some tires ,most of the deals were sold early in the morning. But some really neat examples of Vintage bikes (NOT) for sale. Exept the Harley Cafe racer , which for supposedly 3500 miles wasnt in that cond
