i did a forced update on spybot and reran it for good measures, checked my network traffic in case someone managed to get on my secured wireless network but that came out clean as well... anyone here seen this before?

screaming, actually, i found out the problem; a specific search i was doing (i admit it, i was up to no good) is probably doing the same actions as a known trojan or whatnot; because my searching has been reinstated and i can replicate the error over and over again, as can a friend of mine following the exact same steps...
