So, I am watching Naked Science on National Geographic, and they are talking about wind storms.

They got to tornadoes, and how tornadoes wind speed is so severe that it destroys the equipment used to measure the speed.

They talk about this scientist on Ohio that noticed that a tornado could pluck the feathers off a chicken. So, what speed would you need to accomplish this?

His solution? Take a cannon, point it straight up in the air, and stuff the chicken down the barrel, and fire it off, then using ballistics calculate the speed.

He came up with 341 MPH.

Was pretty funny watching his filming of this experiment.

Isn't naked science the one where they have the scientists on an island trying to build shit? I was amazed at how they used barbed wire as an antenna and raw quartz as the crystal etc. Damn good show and I found it really made me think more about what was around me as I do a lot of prospecting and camping.

No, something different . . . when I was about 7 or 8 I built a crystal radio set. Pretty hard to change stations when you are using a rock as a receiver.

The name of the show I was thinking of is Rough Science. They take a few physists and scientists and challenge them to build shit with what ever they find on the island. They have built radios, weather stations, clocks and all kinds of other stuff with whatever was around. Really cool and fairly amazing.
