Quitting smoking tips-from ex-smokers
Any tips from ex-smokers?
What worked best for you? Cold turkey? The patch? Others? I told myself I'd give it a good, honest go when I got back from Vegas. Now that I'm pretty much caught up, tomorrow's the day I'm starting. |

I quit 7 months ago after smoking 2 packs a day for more than 10 years. Used the patch. It works. Remember to drink lots of water too.

![]() I had to quit smoking pot, 'cause it made me hornier than I usually am (which is saying something) and the wife couldn't keep up. |

I quit about 8 months ago, after having smoked for 10 years and having attempted to quit numerous times, and what did it for me was will power. In the end, all that counts is your own decision... do you light one up or not?

It's all in your mind. When my father learned he had cancer he stopped smoking same day like it was the easiest thing, unfortunatelly six months later he passed away. I remember when I was young telling me probably he would die from cancer caused by smoking and advised me to never smoke.

I quit 1,5 years ago after 13 years of fairly heavy smoking.
It was my NINTH try! (goes to say, it is easy to quit, I did it many times - duuh) However, what worked for me in the end was a combination of the patch and prescription wellbutrin (same as xanax) and guidance from doctors. I have not looked back since. Good to be alive. ![]() ![]()

Since I quite, my consumption of green went down dramatically, so I did not replace one with the other, but if you are interested in knowing, my lung capacity (yes, for both) has gone up a considerable amount. I spend most of my weekends (all seasons) in the backcountry/mountains scrambling, hiking, traversing/skiing, climbing and etc and each time I go I am more and more impressed (sorry for the 'pat on my own back' session). I also jog/run, rollerblade, and do many other forms/methods physical activities. I simply used one of my biggest loves (the great outdoors) as motivation. I wish you (or whomever needs the advise) the best of luck and if you ever need anything, just ping me. |

I quit over two years ago using a combination of things.
1) Zyban. Fucking wonder drug. No cravings, no withdrawals. 2) Get something to chew on. The mental part of smoking can be tamed by chewing on cinnamon sticks, gum (not a big fan of gum), hard candies. Only takes a short while to get over the desire to put something in your mouth. 3) Set goals. Get one of these things: http://mwilden.com/QuitTime/ Awesome little counter that allows you to keep score. 4) Don't give up. If you go cold turkey, the hardest time is the first 3-4 days. After that it gets easier. 5) Motivation: http://www.tobacco-facts.info/lung_cancer.htm Good luck! |

I've never smoked, but I helped my ex quit, everytime he wanted a cig, I offered him something sexual instead, worked pretty well. nothing like trading one addiction for another
