I'm afraid you might be.

Even typo names that have steady type-in traffic are valuable. Voyuer.com (a misspelling of voyeur) just went for $112,100 this week in an auction at SnapNames. The name has a score of 2,549 in Overture with the extension.

This might not be a perfect example (I think the buyer overpaid), but it shows just how lucrative type-in domains are and how willing investors are to get their hands on steady, perpetual (e.g. NEVER ENDING) revenue traffic.

Alright, I'm back and sorting thru a ton of email and some decent domains. I'll get back to everyone as fast as possible, but it might take me a day or so.

On second thought, maybe I'll just make this easy and buy JimHolio.com for 300k. Sounds like a bargain!

Hey Donovan,

This is the same thing I said publicly on the original YNOT back when WebFather was paying 60 or 90K for porno.com and telling everyone that domains were the the real estate of the internet. He literally spelled out his business plan for us in '97 or so... I wish I had followed his advice back then! ;)

You can see by this thread why Webfather gave up, you can also see that those who followed are still here today. Even those that did not follow to the letter still picked up nice domains on his advise and still reep the benefits from it.

Yep, I got in on the domain game pretty early (1996) and even though I was buying before I knew Webfather, he got me "re-motivated" on more than one occasion. I definitley picked up a few gems thanks to him.

I didn't say domain names didn't have value. I just believe people over rate the value tremendously. Even if a domain name gets 5,000 type ins a day how well will that traffic convert? 1:100 ? 1:1000 ? It all depends on the QUALITY of the site on which they land, as I mentioned before.

And a quality site trancends a domain name.

My point: I'd rather spend the $300k on quality content and watch it grow by word of mouth than to spend it on a domain name that will point to a site that sucks.

Have a look at the quality of the sites at analsex.com or porno.com. Does that tell you anything?

Exactly! When you own a great domain, you point it to whoever will pay you the most for your traffic, period.

He's comparing apples and oranges. Two totally different business models. They both work and I've had success in both areas, but I'm lazy so I prefer to just send traffic and collect checks ;)

Take a look at alsscan.com, karupsha.com, amkingdom.com

Domains suck. Sites rock.

Two ways to skin a cat, I guess. My personal favorite is to make a site into something people want to see. They'll remember the domain name if they like the site.

Yahoo.com Google.com

What the fuck is a Yahoo? And who cares about a large number? But the sites both offer what surfers want and now those two sites are part of our vocabulary, aren't they?

The problem is that I will personally never return to sites like analsex.com and porno.com after visiting them once, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. I wouldn't return to sex.com either if I didn't personally like Gary Kremen. I can find the same results that I'd get from those three sites (better actually) by simply typing in "sex" or "anal sex" or "porno" into google.

Like I said, though... to each their own.

5000 typeins a day converting at 1/1000
5 x $35 a sale = $175 a day
175 x 365 = $63875 a year

4.6 years to make your money back, you still own the domain
Amount of work involved NONE
Amount of staff involved NONE
Amount of content involved: 1k text file > Redirect /

A domain brought 4.6 years ago that was worth its money, is properly worth at least 2x that value now

So in 4.6 years you make nearly 1 million dollars from your 300k investment
and you do basically nothing for it
This is based on 1/1000 which with typein traffic is a joke, go for 1/300 these days.

If the landing at is not converting, change one text line

The thing you're forgetting is that it doesn't matter if a single person comes back to the site. What matters is that a bunch more people will go to the site once tomorrow. Once is enough for me. How many times does someone need to see a tour before they sign up?

I'd rather have fresh eyes every day, myself.

Stop being so lazy! You'll never amount to nuthin' in this biz if you think the way you do!

Spend money on content or build one of those new fangled thumbnail TGP's or somethin'!

Who is this Ken guy anyway?

BTW - JonathanSilverstein.com is available for a fair price. Only stipulation is that you can't point it to a gay site or a tranny site, or anything other than 404 Page. Lots of type-ins!

I'm heading to bed. But I'll tell you, I'd rather have a site that people come back to over and over again. Members will join, quit for awhile, come back again, etc. I think the current set up of porno.com and analsex.com are very short term thinking.

If the surfer never returns you have that one shot and one shot only to sell. After that you'll likely never see them again. Traffic will gradually decrease.

My opinions (but grounded in a bit of fact from some info I know about a few similar situations). I like to think more long term.

But everyone has their own business plan. One great thing about discussion boards is that everyone can voice their own opinions. These are mine.

I'm not the one looking to spend the $300k on domains. So that being said: only Ken's business plan really matters here, now doesn't it?

I'm off to bed. Meant to go that way an hour ago but got sucked into GFY.

These threads are amazing. You always get at least one asshat, usually more, who think spending 300 thousand on something that makes 10k/month without any effort whatsoever, and will continue to do so without any further effort, is a bad idea. Unbefuckinglievable. If i came across a domain like that, i wouldn't hesitate in getting a loan from the bank. You can bet your ass the bank wouldn't hesitate to give that loan either if the had the proven numbers in front of them.

NO offence but your posts in this thread are some of the funniest I have ever seen.

Post count matters.... just ask Juicy or Mr Izzz they can explain how important it is..

Unbefuckinglievable. If i came across a domain like that, i wouldn't hesitate in getting a loan from the bank. You can bet your ass the bank wouldn't hesitate to give that loan either if the had the proven numbers in front of them.

Donny is not an asshat although we could debate that in another thread

He's stubborn and refuses to think outside the bubble he lives in and has created for himself. He's fairly successful and admires the "alscans and karups" of the world.

Donny just just doesn't "get it" when it comes to buying typein domains. Plain and simple.

Ken's success and experience can't be ignored. His track record speaks volumes about what he knows about making $$$ in this business with domains and traffic in general.

I just want to see what domains he ends up with!

I can find the same results that I'd get from those three sites (better actually) by simply typing in "sex" or "anal sex" or "porno" into google.

Like I said, though... to each their own.
Lol, I'd rather have some decent names pointing just to a landing page and doing nothing with them at all, just paying the hosting bill, rather than working 10 hours a day on some stupid paysites, buying content for them, dealing with members, processors etc, even if the second would make me more money.
