Windows XP....HEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPP

I'm regretting buying this new box with XP media center edition.

If there are any experts in the house......I try to left click a movie file in internet explorer (wmv, mpeg, whatever)....I get a pop up dialog box that says
"The file you are downloading cannot be opened by the default program. It is either corrupted or has an incorrect file type. As a security precaution it is recommended that you cancel the download"

And then it only gives me the option to save or cancel...so I can't stream any video in media player.

Anybody have a fix for this?
What really annoys me about this is I'm thinking of all the people out there with new computers who can't surf our sites because of these default settings.....what a pain.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your problem but you should install all video codecs that you think you might need (Xvid, DivX, etc). The easiest way is to install the Gordion Knot Codec Pack.

That doesn't work....I try to install windows media player and it tell me that "you have the latest version of windows media 10 series, no updates are available"

Its something to do with this god forsaken windows XP security center....I wish I could get rid of that altogether

I meant for you to uninstall - then - reinstall media player...after ripping it out and reinstalling it then you can update it and patch it etc. etc....

as for the Security center in SP2...you don't HAVE to install sp2...I still haven't on alot of my machines...just keep up with the hotfixes released post sp2 and you'll be fine...

Uninstalling Service Pack 2

Uninstalling Service Pack 2
I could try to uninstall it......as for sp2, this is a new box from Dell and it shipped with SP2 already installed and I don't see a way to remove this stuff in the add/remove programs window. I'll see if your uninstall link will work for this box.

Pio - if I open a file on my hard drive with media player it works fine, it'll play like normal. Its when I left click a video file link on a web page that I have the problem
