MGP Advice Please

Hi all......we are experimenting with MGP's today and are trying to figure out the mpeg file size problem while still retaining quality. It seems that our 9.5 second clips are 1.63MB in size and after looking at other mgp posts we notice that most are getting 10 second quality clips at 1.0MB.

We tried 10 types of mpeg's and found that the setting at

VCD NTSC (MPEG-1)
24 Bits, 352 x 240, 29.97 fps
Video Data Rate 1123 Kbps
Audio Data Rate 224 Kbps

was the best quality for the smallest file size but still seems large to us by about 30% to 50%. Is this something we should worry about? We have plenty of bandwidth to use (900gigs per month) and get listed on thehun and 30 other partnered tgp's about twice per week with our regular pic galleries.

encode the clips at a lower bitrate, try tmpgenc,

also with 900 gigs don't expect much, that's 30 gigs per day

keep up the good work with the pic galleries!

Switch screen size to 320x240 , 29.9 is good but you can go lower to 25 fps
Your video data rate is way too high, 1100 should only be reserved inside members area and some surfers will have problems streaming it, try dropping it down to 600-700 range.
Audio rate: drop it down to 64 kbps

What software are you using for the encoding?

I think the answer is simple, most of the video clips you see are of less quality then yours. A smaller filesize also means faster load times, which is an important factor since the speed of your server is (at least in Europe) not very good (only 50kb/s).
When you submit regularly you will see that 900GB/mo is not very much.

Thanks ronin....Ulead does 24bit only. We will look in to the tmpgenc. Do you have a link?

Thanks Vox & Fabuleux....we thought the 320x240 was small but I will try that also. As for bandwidth we were going to cut down to once per week on submissions insted of twice per week. I can get more bandwidth no problem if we see it is worth it.

you can make it even smaller by using wmv...

btw.. 900gigs is nowhere near enough.. take what bandwidth you use with pic galleries and multiply that by 3 or 4

You have 10 sponsor links on that gallery? Im not so sure it will get listed most places. Anyway, about the file size you should use the wmv format if you are worried about file size, you look nice though

Figured that because my galleries such as

are only about are 3MB total where as the mgp test is 7MB. I guess we would have to cut down posting frequency and add bandwidth. Starting to look like it is not worth it at this time unless it would increase sales considerably.

Thanks Nicky.....we adjust link totals according to rules of the tgp we are submitting to. The Hun actually accepts mine the way you see the test though.

change the audio compression to 92 kbps. i usually run at 550kbps on the video quality i think. i do 20 second clips at 1.5megs

i would get rid of tgp_logo_krystal_pink_boots_020sm_494x352.jpg all together if you want to get listed on sites, it probably wont affect click throughs either.

Thanks Beemk .....I never thought about dropping the top logo. I have however thought about making it much smaller. I already get listed on 30 big partner tgp's including the hun everytime so it hasn't affected my being accepted yet.

Try a lower bit rate. Should do the trick. I can get a 20 secong vid down to about 1.5. It's not the greatest quality but it does the trick.
