I met my better half when we were 18 and worked at the mall. I was in a cd store and she was at a Dairy Queen across the courtyard. I couldn't be with her last year. Unfortunately, she has lived in New York for a few years now and I still live in our home town of Chicago. To me, it is amazing how close we've stayed considering the physical distance and some tragedies we've endured. So for the last Valentine's, I sent her a gift box with a cd I made of her favorite songs and a gift certificate for Dairy Queen. Then I gave her two big, fluffy sweatshirts with one saying "I (heart) New York" and the other reading "Sweet Home Chicago". In the note, I told her that from where we started to where we are to where ever we go next, it all meant that much more to me because she was there too. When we had the chance to be together again, I made dinner for her and took her out for a treat a Dairy Queen. The whole thing cost me next to nothing, but she said it was the nicest present she's ever received. So I guess that's romatic. But the year before that, I just got her a big heart shaped cookie that said "Eat Me". Then we boned. :1orglaugh |
Spending time with my love in a romantic place.

Don't wait until Valentine's Day, make every day a special one. How? Just a small , simple surprise.
Waking up early in the morning to put a rose on her pillow and bringing in a hot cup of coffee just the way she likes it (when she thought you never noticed). When she smiles and asks "why this surprise?", tell her "every day I wake up next to you reminds me how lucky I am and this is just a small way to say 'thank you'." Call her at work one day and when she asks why, tell her you miss her and wanted to hear her voice. After a long week surprise her Friday by having your bags packed (don't even try to pack hers, just leave hers on the bed!) ... tell her you are taking her away for the weekend to [insert your favourite getaway here] If possible, pick her up from work one day (even better if she usually commutes!) and take her out for a drink in a romantic spot. Buy her 2 tickets to the cheesy romantic movie she keeps talking about but knows you don't want to see. And always, every day, treat her like a lady. Be respectful, supportive and make her feel like she is a princess. Listen. Understand. And make sure you add a little spice to your sex life to make sure she knows you totally desire her. I can say (and do) these things because the lady I love makes it easy. |
as homer simpson would say:

Last year was really romantic. I went and got my hair done ($200) and my hubby took me to the Melting Pot where I passed out and started seizing from the toxic fumes from being in the hair salon so long, and they had to call an ambulance (Priceless). Sitting in the hospital for 3 hours and never getting to eat kinda sucked tho. Ah the moments when memories are made.

sheesh alot of testosterone flying in here... gonna get my balls chopped off after this one... oh well here it goes, most romantic thing i did for my significant other aka the day i proposed
she was still living in the apartment upstairs from me at the time and i had told her to come down to my place at 4:30 exactly, dressed and ready to go... when she came down (she had a key) she came in to my place and followed a trail of rose petals to the bedroom door, which was shut, and had a note taped to it saying "you might need this", accompanied by a safety pin... anyhow she opened the door and on the bed were 50 balloons, neatly stacked on the bed and a note taped to the most prominent baloon saying she had 20 minutes to pop the balloons and then to go wait outside... each balloon had a handwritten antiquated paper with one of 50 reasons why i love her as well as various rose petals (do you know how hard it is to get notes and rose petals into balloons?!!)... at this point i received a call from her sobbing and crying trying to figure out where i was (i'll get to that in a minute)... i told her to continue and to go outside when the alarm rang (everything was planned to the minute)... when done she went outside and a limo was waiting for her, which took her for a ride, the driver had strict instructions to not tell her where she was going... when she showed up at the restaurant, i was waiting there outside in my finest suit and she cried some more... we ate a nice dinner in front of the restaurants fire place (looking out to the NY harbor with a backdrop of the Verezzano bridge, for those familiar with the area) and after dinner we stepped outside for a cigarette break... when we returned the owner had followed my instructions and put a framed poem (commissioned, because i can't rhyme for shit) at her seat... she started reading the poem, while crying once again... when finished i went to one knee and proposed... that's the most romantic thing i ever did... |
Sexdwarf, that is lovely beyond words.

Just spending time with my other half is romantic to me, no PC, no tv, (possibly a little music), no people, no work. Just some quality time.
Though last valanties weekend someone gave me some cheap tickets for two night in a hilton in london on valanties weekend so I planned the weekend out step by step and did a really classicly cheesy run around london. we went to Hamley and I brought her a bear, we went to Harrods and got some chocolates, went on the london eye, went to the tate modern, then had a candel light dinner booked for the evening.... was horificaly cheesy but great fun. |
