What the hell are "anti-smut forces"?
 Harry Reems co-star of the film 'Deep Thorat' is shown in this 1976 booking photo. 'Deep Throat' was the object of repeated legal assaults by anti-smut forces that tried to squeeze the movie out of theaters. The most notable case was aimed at lead-actor Reems, who was convicted of obscenity charges in 1976 and faced a potential five-year prison term. Celebrities such as Jack Nicholson and Warren Beatty came to Reems' defense, and the conviction was later overturned. Over the weekend at the Sundance Film Festival, examines the legacy of the 1972 flick, a forerunner of today's hardcore adult-entertainment industry and a touchstone for obscenity laws. (AP Photo/ho)
