    Credit Cards tards: Pre-authorization question

If the order didn't go thru, how long for pre-authorization amount to re-appear on your Credit Card ?

I odered some stuff online, they took $200 off my Epassporte card as a pre-authorization and then told me they can't complete the order, bu the Card wasn't charged.

When will these $200 credited back ?

7-10 days, depending on your issuer, unless the merchant calls for a reversal.

Happened to me a couple of times the place that placed the pending charge has to contact Epassporte or you have to wait it can take up to 30 days

Whoah! The only question I can think of: why?

Someone at Westpac told me that pre-auths drop off within a week if the merchant doesn't settle them. I guess I was misinformed...

It's extremely rare that a pending authorization doesn't drop off in 10 days or less.

I worked for a Visa company for three years and not once did I see an authorization last longer than 10 days. If it does, the merchant is either taking multiple authorizations, or there's a glitch somewhere.
