I use X3... I'm sure there's better out there to be had, but it's free so I wasn't bitching...

you can also try
autogallerypro (sql) or this script called TGP Brownie the last I haven´t used myself but it seems quite cool |

Germesia is probably the best script out there but a tad pricey if you're not sure you want to commit to this stuff. Autogallery Pro or SQL is the best mid-range script I've seen.

I like the way autogallery handles the archives... tgp brownie seems to do a lot of checking of the gallery for you, so could save a lot of time
