I'm 22...this upcoming fall i will be transferring to a university. i've been dabbling with a few sites for the last year or so and checks are starting to come in here and there. my dad is a very successful man in commercial real estate. after finding out about me "peddling porn" he wants me to shut everything down because he says it could ruin me in the future with things such as running for public office (which i doubt i would even do). i disagree with him. i want to continue to pursue my websites in this industry because i like making money from it and it also has become a hobby. what the hell should i do? i've gone through my whole life lying to my father and he always seems to find out what i've lied about. i could tell him i'm done with this...but i know he will find out i lied somehow. is my dad right? or does he not know what he's talking about? i really need some input and advice from some smart people...thanks...

Well, I can't say that I have more life experience than you do cause I am 22 as well, but if his only beef with you selling porn is that it'll come back to haunt you when you run for office, you should probably talk to him and tell him your grand plan. Maybe he thinks that you don't have a direction in life, so hes trying to help you speed things up by choosing one for you. If you know what you want to do, then tell him thats what you want to do. to me his saying this to you is more about him than you. He is saying that porn could cause you problems in the future. what he means is that you selling porn could embarass him and your family in the future. If he's a well know real estate guy then it could be a black eye for him to have a son in porn and this is his way of telling you this. But you only have two real choices. Stop doing porn, focus on school and get a job and move in a different direction ( whatever that may end up being ) or keep doing porn. But before you choose to stay in other people here have made good points. First, if you are not making enough to pay your bills, you may want to rethink this as a full time job. second, if you continue to do this you may cause a rift in your family. Clearly you do not respect your dad because you said yourself that you have spent most of your life lying to him so causing this rift may not be a big deal to you. But if you continue and he cuts you off, then where are you.
In the end you need to decide what will make you happy. If your strongest desire is to stay in school and get an education and do something with it, then you should think about getting out. If you would rather be independent and do as you please, then contiue and if you get cut off you will have to quit school and support yourself. If you want to finish school but continue in porn maybe come up with a business plan and present it to him. Show him this is a legitimate business and if he sees you have a plan for the future then maybe he will continue to support you.
Just make sure you whatever you pick, you are picking what will make you happy.Comment
